Annual Water Quality Reports Available Online

FREDERICK, Md. - Consumer Confidence Reports (CCR), also known as annual drinking water quality reports, for calendar year 2024 are now available online at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/WaterQualityReports, according to the Frederick County Division of Water and Sewer Utilities (DWSU).

The Safe Drinking Water Act requires all community water systems to provide an annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) to its customers.  This report provides information about local drinking water quality, including the regulated contaminants found in your drinking water and health effects. Drinking water from all 13 of the water systems operated by DWSU meets or exceeds all State and Federal drinking water standards.

This year’s report includes information on PFAS, also known as “Forever Chemicals,” which can come from everyday items like food packaging and non-stick pans.  In April 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency established legally enforceable levels for six PFAS in drinking water. Frederick County and the Maryland Department of the Environment have been sampling all Frederick County water systems for PFAS since 2020.  Results of PFAS testing and related information can be found in your CCR. For more information on PFAS regulations, please visit www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/WaterSewer.

Two new sections have been added to the CCR. The Service Line Inventory section helps customers look up their water piping material and assists with the identification of the service line material if it is classified as “Lead Status Unknown.” The Fifth Unregulated Contaminated Monitoring Rule (UCMR 5) section explains the rule and provides information on where to find test results.

“Our customers’ water undergoes extensive testing for numerous compounds, far beyond what customers will find in their CCR. However, only the detected compounds are presented in the CCR,” said DWSU Director Mark Schweitzer. “We take great pride in providing reliable service and high-quality drinking water. This report aims to help customers better understand the contents of the water they rely on daily.”

Water customers will see a notice printed in their quarterly billing statement that includes a direct web link to their system’s report on the Frederick County website. Customers who are unable to view this report online can contact DWSU at 301-600-1825 to request a paper copy, which will be mailed to them.

For further information or questions about the content of the CCR, contact Regulatory Compliance Department Head Joshua Smith at 301-600-2581 or via e-mail at JSmith5@FrederickCountyMD.gov.
