Due to a number of recent incidents impacting public safety, the City launched a targeted 60-Day Downtown Safety Initiative on Monday, May 1. There are complex circumstances contributing to the safety issues that Asheville is currently seeing downtown and it will take a community response to address these complexities.
Thank you for your continued interest in this initiative and we look forward to keeping you updated on a bi-weekly basis through the end of June.
We will also notify you about the City’s analysis of the initiative and efforts beyond the 60 days. Information gathered, along with crime statistics and survey results will be used to assess whether or not actions have had an impact on downtown safety and will help determine strategies moving forward.
