Hi neighbors, Happy Friday!
A win for the neighbors!
Yesterday the City Council unanimously passed the FY 2025 Budget by a vote of 11-0. I’m generally pleased with how the FY 2025 budget turned out. I’ve always contended that we need to spend our money in a way that most directly and positively impacts our citizens' day-to-day lives. Time and again, my office has heard from residents about their priorities: more public safety, infrastructure improvements, and addressing the homeless encampments emerging across our City. In this budget, we have provided funding for those three priorities and that is a win for San Antonio. Additionally, I’m thrilled today to approve the contract with our firefighters. The pay raise these brave men and women are receiving today is well deserved.
Looking ahead to future budgets, I am eager for the City to implement the new hybrid Zero-Based Budgeting model, which will ensure more strategic and efficient use of our resources. This approach will allow us to utilize our residents' tax dollars more effectively. Only by maximizing our resources can San Antonio truly reach its full potential.
The FY2025 Budget will begin October 1, 2024.
YOU'RE invited...

Community Corner:
Bingo Night

District 10 sure knows how to B-I-N-G-O! We had a great time at our first ever Bingo Night at the Northeast Senior Center. Win or lose, thank you for spending your evening with me and the staff.
Chat with Burning Tree Apartments

One of my top priorities when I took office was to ensure I am accessible to every part of the district. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Burning Tree Apartments for allowing me to visit and engage with our residents.
Meet our Invocator

It was my honor to invite Pastor Jimenez of MacArthur Park Lutheran Church to speak inspiring words at our A-session last Thursday, September 12, 2024. Your words remind us of the importance of faith and unity as we work together for the betterment of our community.
Painting in the Park

Our second Painting in the Park was a major success! Participants greatly enjoyed painting fall themes on mini canvas's to adorn their home.
A big thank you to all our neighbors for a great Saturday and to Los Patios for hosting us. We hope to see you at our next Painting in the Park.
District 10 Community Meeting

Another month, another successful community meeting. Special thank you to our guests: NEISD's Superintendent Dr. Sean Maika, AACOG's Lyle Hufstetler, and Mark Rogers from the Heart of Texas Band.
Re-watch here in case you missed it!
HOA Meetings

It was a productive and engaging week filled with neighborhood meetings! A big thank you to Terrell Heights, Fox Run, and High Country for inviting us to participate and discuss the issues that matter most to you. We’re always eager to connect with more communities—if you’d like us to attend your HOA or Neighborhood Association meeting, don’t hesitate to reach out at councildistrict10@sanantonio.gov.

From San Antonio Water Systems:
Storm drains are only for rain
Rain may be a rare occurrence these days, but when it does happen the San Antonio River and
local creeks are inundated with debris and contaminants.
That's because trash from streets and parking lots or chemicals from driveways and landscapes
is washed down storm drains and right into the nearest body of water.
It's called runoff — and it's a major source of pollution to the San Antonio River watershed.
You can help prevent pollutants and debris from entering our storm drains.
• Toss trash in garbage bins.
• Use pesticides and fertilizers sparingly, within recommended amounts (and avoid using if
rain is in the forecast).
• Pick up and dispose of pet waste.
• Use drip pans to catch engine oil and other pollutants when repairing automobiles and
recycle them.
• Compost or mulch leaves and yard trimmings instead of sweeping them into the street.
• Direct downspouts and rain gutters away from paved surfaces.

Motor Oil and Water Don't Mix:
That old saying is especially true when it comes to used motor oil and our local water supplies. It is estimated that American households improperly dump about 193 million gallons of used motor oil every year which could leak into our storm drain system and eventually contaminate our rivers, creeks, and lakes. Recycling used motor oil reduces this pollution threat.
Did you know that the City of San Antonio operates a permanent drop off location for used motor oil?
Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Facility
7030 Culebra Road
San Antonio, Tx 78238
Tuesday-Friday: 8am-5pm (except holidays)
Saturday: 8am-12pm (except holidays)

City is now accepting applications for REHABARAMA!
The City’s Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) is expanding its REHABARAMA program. If selected, participants may receive minor home repairs at no cost.Eligibility restrictions apply.
One goal of REHABARAMA is to preserve aging housing stock for the purpose of allowing residents to age in place & gain generational wealth. “Our older housing stock provides a high proportion of naturally occurring affordable housing that remains largely unsubsidized and unprotected. These existing homes can be at risk of deterioration or demolition due to deferred maintenance, and once they are gone, we lose the affordability,” says Shanon Miller, Director of the Office of Historic Preservation. “Prioritizing repair and maintenance programs for our older housing stock is supported by the City's Strategic Housing Implementation Plan as an environmentally and economically sustainable method of housing preservation.”
Qualified participants are eligible to receive assistance with home repair and maintenance projects focused on arresting deterioration and prolonging the useful life of the home. Typical scopes of work include projects that address one or more of the following:
- Building envelope (siding, soffit, fascia, roof penetrations, skirting)
- Structural systems (foundation, stabilization, reinforcement of structural elements, masonry)
- Non-compliance with property maintenance code issues
- Weatherization & comfort (wood window repair, windows screens, door repair, insulation)
- Longevity (scraping, caulking, painting, flashing, gutter repair)
- Safety (porch repair & decking, accessibility)
To be eligible, the home must be constructed prior to 1960, and the income level for the household must be at 80% of the Area Median Income or below.
To apply, homeowners can visit the REHABARAMA website or call 210-207-3327 to request an application by mail or email.
Beyond preserving aging housing stock, another goal of REHABARAMA is to integrate trades education and learning opportunities into every project. The City is seeking to hire contractors that would be willing to host an apprentice at no cost. Interested contractors can call 210-207-4680 or visit the REHABARAMA website to submit the Contractor Interest Form.

The City of San Antonio, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC), and LiftFund have secured $500,000 in the FY23 Budget for the City of San Antonio’s 0% Interest Program, a program aimed to support the growth of San Antonio small businesses, especially in light of recent economic challenges.
