Special Events Safety Tips

Motorists and Pedestrians

  • Plan ahead.
  • Stay alert and remain cautious.
  • Lookout for each other.
  • Use pedestrian crossings. 
  • Obey the signs.

September 12 – 29: Charlotte International Arts Festival 

The event begins on September 12 at 12 p.m. and ends on September 29 at 10 p.m. 

Closures begin on September 8 at 7 a.m., and streets will reopen on September 30 at 7 p.m. Closures for this event include Levine Avenue of the Arts between N. Tryon Street and Church Street.  

Event organizers expect 1,000 participants.

September 13: Prosperity Village Food Truck/Movie Night 

The event begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. 

Closures begin at 4 p.m. and streets will reopen at 10 p.m. Closures for this event include Prosperity Crossing Road and will conclude at the Green at Prosperity Village.  

Event organizers expect 250 participants.

September 13: Headed for Hope 5K 

The event begins at 9 a.m. on Baldwin Avenue. Participants will travel to Luther Street, Lillington Avenue, Queens Road, Hermitage Road, Granville Road, Queens Road, South Kings Drive, Luther Street, concluding on Baldwin Avenue.   

Event organizers expect 500 participants.

September 13: South End Shuffle 

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. on Summit Avenue. Participants will travel to Camden Road, Tremont Avenue, Hawkins Street, Dunavant Street, Remount Road, Toomey Avenue, Wilmore Drive, Mint Street, Summit Avenue, concluding on Winnifred Street.  

Event organizers expect 1,200 participants.

September 20: Hit the Brixx 10K 

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. on Ardrey Kell Road. Participants will travel to Rea Road, Parks Farm Lane, Blakeney Heath Road, Blakeney Professional Drive, Rea Road, Lindahi Lane, Hirsch Drive, Hanworth Trace Drive, Albury Walk Lane, Castlebay Drive, Tonawanda Drive, Burnside Lane, Ardrey Woods Drive, Woodland Watch Court, Community House Road, concluding on Ardrey Kell Road. 

Event organizers expect 800 participants

September 20: Festival of India 

The event begins at 12 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.  

Closures begin at 6 a.m. and will reopen at 11:30 p.m. Closures include N. Tryon Street between Trade Street and 7th Street as well as 5th Street between Church Street and College Street, and 6th Street between Church Street and College Street. 

Event organizers expect 4,000 participants

September 21: Panthers Fan Fest: Bud Light Backyard

This event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m.  

Closures begin at 5 a.m. and streets will reopen at 6 p.m. Closures will include Mint Street between Morehead Street and 1st Street, Graham Street between Mint Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and Brooklyn Village Avenue between Church Street and Mint Street. 

Event organizers expect 2,000 participants.


 

September 27: Greater Charlotte Heart Walk 

The event begins at 9 a.m. on Mint Street. Participants will travel to Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, S. Tryon Street, Park Avenue, Mint Street, Bland Street, Winnifred Street, Carson Boulevard, Mint Street, concluding at 3rd Street.  

Event organizers expect 5,000 participants

September 27: 2025 Midwood Mile 

The event begins at 4 p.m. on Mecklenburg Avenue. The participants will travel down The Plaza towards Hamerton Place. The event will conclude at Hamerton Place on Landis Avenue.

September 27: JCSU Homecoming Parade 

The event begins at 10 a.m. on Dr. Webber Avenue. The participants will travel down Beatties Ford Road to Cemetery Street, concluding on Cemetery Avenue.   

Event organizers expect 200 participants 


 

September 27: JCSU Homecoming Festival

This event begins at 2 p.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m.  

Closures begin at 6 a.m. and streets will reopen at 7 p.m. Closures will include Martin Street between 5th Street and Summit Avenue, and Summit Avenue between 5th Street and Andrell Terrace.  

Event organizers expect 5,000 participants 


 

October 4: UNCF Walk for Education

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. on Carnegie Boulevard. Participants will travel to Barclay Downs Drive, Ferncliff Road, Ayscough Road, Wickersham Road, Merrifield Road, Clarendon Road, Colony Road, Roxborough Road, Rexford Road, Coca Cola Plaza, concluding on Carnegie Boulevard.   

Event organizers expect 250 participants.

October 11: St. Jude Walk/Run Charlotte 

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at First Ward Park. Participants will travel to 7th Street, Charlottetowne Avenue, Park Drive around Independence Park, 7th Street, concluding on Brevard Street.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at Symphony Park. Participants will travel to Coca Cola Plaza, Rexford Road, Roxborough Road, Colony Road, Richardson Drive, Ferncliff Road, concluding on Carnegie Boulevard.
