Spring Seed Swap

Meet fellow gardening enthusiasts, share seeds for spring planting, get gardening tips and enjoy fun family activities. Small garden cuttings are also welcome. Bringing seeds or cuttings is welcomed and encouraged, but is not required to participate. Hands-on gardening fun for children to plant seeds in a compostable mini pot. Check out the seed lending library while you are here. Enjoy this free community event starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 1, at the Menlo Park Library.

Now hiring full-time recreation coordinators

The City of Menlo Park is now accepting applications for full-time recreation coordinators. This is an unparalleled opportunity to join our skilled and community-oriented professional team. Menlo Park offers competitive salary, excellent benefits, and exceptional staff development and advancement opportunities. Recreation coordinators are hands-on team leaders who support a wide range of services to the Menlo Park community, including recreation center operations, gymnastics programs, youth and adult sports, facility rentals and related areas. We currently have two full-time recreation coordinator positions available. A new, state-of-the-art multi-service facility is currently under construction that will incorporate a community center, gymnasium, aquatics center, senior center, youth center, and branch library under one resilient and environmentally sustainable roof. The new facility is being constructed in partnership with Meta and is scheduled to open in 2024. Octavia Butler: Genius Driven by Neurodiversity?

Octavia E. Butler was the first successful Black female science fiction writer, and the first science fiction writer ever to earn a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Fellowship. She was also dyslexic. How did that fact influence her creativity? Presenter Callie Turk will delve into the topic at this free community event beginning at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, at the Menlo Park Library.

Save the date – Egg Hunt at Flood Park

The City of Menlo Park, in partnership with San Mateo County Parks, will host the annual Egg Hunt event for children and families at Flood Park. Famous for its stunning heritage oak and California laurel trees and historic adobe buildings constructed in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration, Flood Park is a 21-acre retreat with large areas of lawn and ample parking, conveniently located at 215 Bay Road near the pedestrian and bicycle overcrossing at U.S. Highway 101. This free family event will feature crafts, a candy guess, egg hunt organized by children’s age groups, photos with the bunny, fire engine rides, and more. Join us from 10 a.m.–Noon, Saturday, April 8, at Flood Park, 215 Bay Road.

Book-ish Trivia returns

The popular after-hours brain-game trivia party for ages 21 and over returns to Menlo Park Library. Gather your team or let us put together one for you to take on questions easy, hard and unconscionable, all related to books, and book-related films, music and more. Free community event for Menlo Park residents 21 and over. Join us starting at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, April 1, at the Menlo Park Library.

Nealon Park baseball field and dog park temporarily closed

During the recent storms, falling trees damaged the fence at the Nealon Park baseball/softball field and dog park. Fortunately, no injuries occurred and City crews were able to quickly remove the fallen trees. However, due to the damage to the fence, the baseball/softball field and dog park will remain closed until the fence can be repaired. Dog owners are encouraged to use alternate dog park locations such as the Willow Oaks dog park, and field users are encouraged inquire about other fields.

Community classes – Spring session begins, space still available

The City of Menlo Park hosts a wide range of community classes for all ages at reasonable rates. The spring session begins this week. Classes include fitness, dance, sports, music, drama, art, lifelong learning and more. City facilities are safe and welcoming to all. In person and online classes are available. Enrollment is still open for some classes. Check out our online activity guide to browse the class listings and enroll online.
