Greetings!
The purpose of this email is to provide information related to the Housing Choices Text Amendment. The proposed changes to the Town’s land use management rules (or LUMO) would allow more diverse types of housing to be built in some areas of Town.
This is what you’ll find in this email:
- What can I expect at the May 24 Council meeting?
- What has changed since the January 2023 proposal?
- What is a Public Hearing?
- How can I provide input?
What can I expect at the May 24 Council meeting?
- Council will hold a Public Hearing to discuss changes to the Town’s land use management rules (or LUMO).
- These changes are related to the “Housing Choices for a Complete Community” or “Housing Choices” text amendment.
- This is the first Public Hearing about the revised text amendments.
- Meeting materials, including a staff report, a draft ordinance, and exhibits will be here.
- Council will not vote on the proposal at this meeting.
- The first chance that Council could vote on this topic is June 2023.
- We anticipate a larger-than-usual crowd at this meeting. Should we reach capacity, we ask that you be patient with staff. They will provide information about how to access the meeting materials, recording, and other public engagement resources.
What has changed since the January 2023 proposal?
- Staff have modified the proposed amendments since they presented in January 2023.
- The size of accessory apartments has been increased from 750 square feet to 1,000 square feet.
- Two-family developments, including single-family + cottage and two attached or detached units would be permitted in all residential (R-) zoning districts.
- Three- and four-family developments would be allowed only in areas that already allow multi-family development. The revised proposal will not allow triplexes or fourplexes in R-1, R-2, or R-3 zoning districts.
What is a Public Hearing?
- A Public Hearing is a Council meeting where community members can provide feedback on a topic. Council also discusses the topic. Council can hold more meetings on a topic if they need more input.
How can I provide input?
