Speed limit update on Valparaiso Avenue

Speed limit 25 mph

As of Oct. 22, and in partnership with the Town of Atherton, the speed limit on Valparaiso Avenue between Cotton Street and El Camino Real has been reduced from 30 mph to 25 mph to improve safety for all road users. Speed has a major impact on how severe a crash can be. Slowing down helps make our streets safer for everyone. Lowering speed limits is an important part of the City’s Vision Zero commitment to end traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2040. Read more...

Join the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Special Meeting Oct. 28

San Mateo County

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. to gather public input on the process and procedures to use in filling the sheriff vacancy, including desired qualifications should the Board of Supervisors elect to make an appointment. The special meeting will allow residents to share their views on the qualities they want in the next sheriff and to inform the Board’s decision on whether to appoint a sheriff or call a special election. Attend in person in the Board Chambers (500 County Center, Redwood City) or virtually. The meeting will be streamed live and archived on the County’s public meeting portal. Read more...

Halloweek continues: Join us for Trunk-or-Treat Oct. 28

Halloweek continues! Join in the fun at Belle Haven Community Campus (100 Terminal Ave.) for our second annual Trunk-or-Treat Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 4:30 - 6 p.m.! Trunk-or-Treat is a safe and fun way for children in our community to enjoy Halloween. Instead of going door-to-door, kids will go from car-to-car, with each vehicle’s trunk decorated in a creative and festive Halloween theme. It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring joy to children and families while fostering community spirit. Trunk-or-treaters will receive a free trick or treat bag. Read more...

Displacement occurs when residents are forced to move due to rising housing costs, evictions, redevelopment or other pressures beyond their control. Swim center hours restored effective Nov. 3

Burgess Pool

At the Sept. 30 meeting, City Council approved funding to sustain and restore operating hours at City-owned swim centers for fiscal year 2025-26. Burgess Pool, which experienced midday reductions in hours, will return to full day, uninterrupted open hours beginning Nov. 3. Path closure along San Francisquito Creek/Santa Cruz Avenue

The path along San Francisquito Creek/Santa Cruz Avenue between Junipero Serra Blvd. and Sand Hill Road, was closed on Friday, Oct. 17, due to uneven pavement conditions caused by erosion. All users should avoid using the path and use alternate routes instead. Bicyclists should use bike lanes on Alpine Road, Junipero Serra Blvd. and Sand Hill Road. Submit artwork for a library card art exhibition by Oct. 31

Library Card

Bring us along on your library adventure! The City of Menlo Park is refreshing our library cards and inviting community members of all ages to submit original artwork inspired by the theme “My Library Adventure in Menlo Park.” Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of staff and stakeholders, and select designs will be printed on new library cards and made available to the public. Any artist whose work is selected for printing will be notified prior to printing. Submit your design by Oct. 31 for the opportunity to be displayed in the gallery Nov. 18, 2025–Jan. 15, 2026. Read more...

Locations for ballot drop-off in the City of Menlo Park are at the Belle Haven Child Development Center (410 Ivy Drive, outside, walk-up), the Boys & Girls Club (401 Pierce Road, outside, walk-up) and City Hall (701 Laurel St., outside, walk-up).
