Utility Billing Updates
The town continues to recover from a major disruption to our utility billing process, after the July cybersecurity incident. Find answers to frequently asked questions and all other updates on this topic at www.apexnc.org/billing.
Cycle 1 Billing Updates
- Who’s in Cycle 1? Cycle 1 customers are typically billed around the first of each month. Billing was delayed significantly in September, as town staff worked to enter all payment data into our restored billing system.
- Online Portal: September bills are now visible in the portal.
- Paper Bills: Paper bills are being mailed to all customers – you should see that bill in your mailbox sometime during the week of September 30th.
- Bill Amount: Your September bill reflects actual utility usage for about three months (your typical bill shows only one month of usage). Therefore, your Total Current Charges line may be much higher than you expected.
- Due Date: The payment due date for cycle 1 bills is typically the 28th of the month. Due to the delay in processing this bill, the September bill will instead be due on October 11th. No penalties will be issued for late payments on this bill.
Questions about your cycle 1 bill? The information found in this document is intended to help customers fully understand the September bill. Please take some time to read the document completely.
Cycle 2 Billing Updates
- Who’s in Cycle 2? Cycle 2 customers are typically billed around the 15th of each month.
- Online Portal: Your September bill is now uploaded into the online portal.
- Paper Bills: The mailing of Cycle 2 bills for September is delayed, and should happen in early October.
- Bill Amount: Your September bill, and all future bills, will be back to 'normal', reflecting only one month of usage.
- Due Date: Your September bill will be due on October 12th.

Early Voting Begins October 17th
The John M. Brown Community Center, located at 53 Hunter Street, will host an early voting site for the 2024 general election. Early voting begins on Thursday, October 17th, and ends Saturday, November 2nd. See a list of other early voting sites in Wake County that will follow the same schedule.
Election Day is November 5th, when voters must visit their assigned precinct location to vote.
This year, voters will see a bond referendum on the ballot from Wake County. It asks voters to decide on a $142 million bond for new libraries, as well as renovations and expansions for existing libraries. One new library is proposed for the Friendship area of Apex. Details about the library bond can be found at www.wakegov.com.

Hurricane Helene - How to Help and Important Info
When recovering from a natural disaster, an organized effort is critical in getting the needed supplies to the right places for distribution. Take a look at resources provided by Wake County Emergency Management to find ways you can donate funds or volunteer time to the recovery effort.
Donations: The best way to help is through the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund. Get all the details at https://ow.ly/X6BC50TzozL.
Avoiding Scams: Many people are eager to help those affected, but it's important to stay vigilant against scammers who can try to exploit such situations. Avoid unsolicited requests for donations, especially through emails, social media or phone calls, and always verify the legitimacy of the charity or fundraiser before providing any personal or financial information.
Volunteering: People are asked not to collect and transport supplies into the region unless they are part of an existing NCVOAD organization. Roads are closed to all traffic other than emergency services and pre-approved shipments. To learn about available volunteer opportunities, residents can fill out the North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s VolunteerNC survey.

New Look for Apex Water Towers
The Town of Apex owns and maintains three elevated water towers designed to provide adequate water storage and water pressure. Our fourth tower will begin construction soon at Pleasant Park.
Over time, weather wears away the paint on a tower. So our towers are repainted on a regular schedule, generally every 8-10 years. Special paint is used to protect the metal from UV rays and other factors, and ultimately extends the life of the structure.
Each time the towers are repainted, the town has the opportunity to either keep the current design, or opt for something new. The Hunter Street tower now features the town’s logo, adopted in 2020 during our community branding study. The Mason Street tower will be repainted in November. The Tingen Road tower will be repainted after the completion of the town’s newest tower at Pleasant Park.
Learn more about the history of the towers at www.apexnc.org/towers.
