December 2025

Background

Construction of the Northeast Service Center began earlier this fall following the groundbreaking event, where City leaders and contracting partners marked the official start of this project. The center will complement Austin Resource Recovery and Austin Fleet Mobility Services existing facilities and once completed in 2027, will help streamline waste management operations, support environmental sustainability goals, and introduce community-oriented features such as public art and meeting space. Since the groundbreaking, crews have moved into early-site construction focused on preparing the land for future building foundations and stormwater systems.

Completed tasks

  • Excavation of all building footprints and areas planned for impervious cover
  • Excavation of the stormwater retention and water quality pond
  • Importing and placing soil materials needed for subgrade and base preparation
  • Compaction of imported soils to prepare for concrete subbase installation

Ongoing tasks

  • Continued compaction and preparation of soils to support foundations
  • Site grading and coordination with the project team ahead of aggregate placement
  • Ongoing monitoring and weather-related adjustments to the construction schedule

Upcoming tasks

  • Importing aggregate materials
  • Installation of drainage systems across the site
  • Construction of concrete forms
  • Rebar installation and tying ahead of future concrete pours

These steps will transition the project toward the concrete phase. Concrete pours are not yet scheduled. Once the site is ready, pours may occur outside the standard construction hours of 7 a.m.–7 p.m. due to weather requirements. The City will provide advance notice as soon as dates are confirmed.

Reminders

  • This is an active construction site. For public safety, unauthorized entry is not permitted.
  • Work hours follow the City’s Noise Ordinance unless otherwise approved.
  • Construction schedules may shift due to weather, site conditions, or other factors.
