Annual Water Treatment Method Switch
From March 1st through April 11th, the Cary/Apex Water Treatment Plant will switch from chloramine disinfection to free chlorine disinfection. The Town conducts this process in conjunction with other communities in the area, as mandated by State and Federal regulatory agencies.
A few things you might experience:
- Low water pressure: As part of this process, the Town's entire water distribution system will be flushed, which could result in temporary low water pressure.
- Slight chlorine taste or odor: Throughout this process, the water will remain safe to drink; however, some consumers may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor.
- Water discoloration: We encourage customers to check their water for discoloration before washing white clothing. If the water appears discolored, try flushing your household lines by running water through all household faucets for a few minutes. If flushing fails to clear the water, please contact Water Resources at (919) 362-8166 for further assistance.
Customers that use tap water for kidney dialysis machines or fish aquariums should be aware that during this period the water may contain chloramine, chlorine, or a mixture of the two at the beginning and end of this period.

New Map Shows Pavement Scores for Town Roads
The Town of Apex currently maintains over 240 miles of roadway in our corporate limits, mainly located in residential subdivisions. Every three years, the town performs a Pavement Condition Survey to assess the general health of our streets. The survey provides Pavement Condition Index (PCI) scores that help prioritize road resurfacing projects.
Take a look at our new interactive map to see how your street scores. Streets marked in green are in great shape, yellow streets are scored as ‘good’, orange as ‘fair’, and red as ‘poor’. Streets in worse condition will be prioritized higher for resurfacing in coming years. If your street is marked with purple, it’s included in the 2024 resurfacing contract which begins in the next month or so – keep an eye out for more info!

Another helpful resource is the Road Ownership Map, that shows which roads are maintained by the town (marked in green), which roads belong to the NC Department of Transportation (blue) and those maintained privately (yellow).
