New Mobile Career Center
The news: Frederick County Workforce Services recently celebrated the unveiling of a new Mobile Career Center. This new initiative will bring unemployment and workforce resources directly to people in underserved and rural areas of Frederick County.
Why it matters: While Frederick County boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state at around 2.6%, we know that many people still face barriers to employment — particularly those without reliable transportation or internet access. The Mobile Career Center will help close those gaps.
More details: Once fully launched, the Mobile Career Center will travel across Frederick County, providing job search help, resume support, interview coaching, career planning, digital skills training, and workforce outreach at job fairs and community events. For more details, see the press release or visit www.FrederickWorks.com.
County Offers Opportunity to Install Rooftop Solar at Reduced Costs
The news: The Division of Energy and Environment has partnered with nonprofit Solar United Neighbors to bring the Switch Together program to our community. This program helps secure discounted rates on rooftop solar, battery backup systems and EV charging equipment for homeowners and businesses.
Why it matters: Participation in the program saves property owners nearly $7,000 on a typical installation. When systems are up and running, owners can significantly reduce or eliminate monthly energy bills. Plus, because the energy is clean and renewable, the benefits extend to the community by reducing pollution, greenhouse gases, and demand on the electrical grid.
More details: Visit www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/SwitchTogether to learn more. It is free to register and there is no obligation to accept an offer. If you want to learn more about this program in person, stop by McClintock Distilling (35 South Carroll Street in Frederick) on Wednesday, August 13 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. to meet program representatives.

Preserving Farmland, Forests, and Natural Resources
The news: The Frederick County Office of Agriculture and the Division of Planning and Permitting have announced a new collaboration that will help preserve farmland and protect natural resources by offering applicants the opportunity to place a combined Installment Purchase Program and Forest Resource Ordinance easement on their land.
Why it matters: We are excited about this new collaboration to protect our farmlands, forests, and natural resources. Offering eligible farmers and landowners the opportunity to combine the two types of easements will help stretch funding further, allowing us to preserve more farms and forests.
More details: The Installment Purchase Program is one of County’s farmland preservation tools, and the Forest Resource Ordinance helps protect forests. Eligible applicants who receive an Installment Purchase Program easement offer may elect to participate in the optional Forest Resource Ordinance easement. Learn more at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/IPP and apply by September 2.
Portion of South Frederick Corridors Area Earns Designation as Transit-Oriented Development
The news: The area surrounding the Monocacy MARC Station off Urbana Pike is now eligible for resources and financial incentives after being designated as a Transit-Oriented Development site by the Maryland Department of Transportation.
Why it matters: The designation means Frederick County and development partners have access to financial assistance and planning resources. It will help bring to life the vision of our South Frederick Corridors Plan. By transforming redevelopment in the area around the MARC station, our community can be well positioned to meet the challenges of housing affordability, economic opportunity, and fiscal responsibility.
More details: The Transit-Oriented Development program encourages the use of transit, walking, and bicycling by locating housing near transit centers. These areas receive bonus weighting when applying for state tax credits to encourage development. They also can apply for a Sustainable Communities designation more easily, which opens the door to even more funding programs. Learn more in the press release.
