Howdy Neighbors, Happy Friday!
Alongside celebrating Texas Independence in March, this month is also home to International Women's Day, and National Irish-American Heritage Month. A big thank you to our neighbors for always making us aware of all we have to be proud of.

KLRN’s exciting new digital series CITY SHOWDOWN premieres Monday, March 20 at 7 p.m. Check out this special update from KLRN on information about the contestants, the voting process, and more! We want to wish our District 10 Songbird, Shannon Sionna a huge congratulations for representing her community. Make us proud!
What is it?
City Showdown is a friendly song competition showcasing San Antonio’s dynamic musicians. The contest features 10 original music video entries from artists who represent each one of San Antonio’s City Council districts. The winner of City Showdown will receive a special feature on an episode of KLRN’s original arts segment The Beat.
How does it work?
City Showdown’s ten contestants will compete in two Semifinals each featuring 5 districts. During the Semis, viewers will learn a bit about the artists and hear a :30 clip from their music video. Then, viewers can vote for their favorite at klrn.org/cityshowdown. The voting period opens Monday at 7PM and ends Friday at 11:59PM.
The FOUR contestants who receive the most votes - two from each Semifinal - will advance on to the Final.
In addition, the contestant with the fifth highest number of overall votes will become the Wildcard Finalist.
During the Final Round, viewers will watch the full entries of each of the five Finalists and voting happens once again.
The winner will be determined by votes received and reported from each of San Antonio’s ten City Council districts.
Who can participate?
The short answer is: everyone! Visit klrn.org/cityshowdown during the voting window and make your voice heard! Tell us who you’re voting for and which district you live in. If you don’t know your district, we can help. Those who don’t live in San Antonio can still vote by typing in their zip code.
When does all this happen?
The first Semifinal of City Showdown premieres Monday, March 20 at 7PM. Catch new episodes, Mondays at 7PM during the competition.
Where can I watch?
You can watch on KLRN’s website, as well as on our YouTube channel and Facebook page.
Why are you doing this?
City Showdown aims to showcase San Antonio’s dynamic and diverse talent, while also raising awareness of the municipal districts in which we reside.
City Showdown is an entertaining and educational series brought to you by San Antonio’s public television station KLRN, proudly serving South Central Texas for over 60 years.
What’s next?
Keep an eye on our social media channels this week and next as we continue to reveal the ten incredibly talented contestants who will compete! Please help us spread the word by sharing this info with your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors!

Zero Percent Interest Loans Now Available for San Antonio Small Businesses!
The City of San Antonio, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC), and LiftFund have secured $500,000 in the FY23 Budget for the City of San Antonio’s 0% Interest Program, a program aimed to support the growth of San Antonio small businesses, especially in light of recent economic challenges.
Small businesses located in or relocating to San Antonio city limits can apply for up to $100,000 in 0% interest funding through the program, double what has been offered by the program in the past. The funding can be used for startups as well as the majority of regular business expenses including inventory, payroll, equipment, and working capital.
According to the program website, the initiative prioritizes funding small businesses looking to hire additional staff, in efforts to help create jobs in the city. Those that have not received a 0% interest LiftFund loan in the past two years also have priority, to help those that need support the most.

The City of San Antonio’s workforce initiative, Ready to Work, announces the launch of a pilot program that expands Ready to Work’s focus to prioritize community members connected to military service living throughout Bexar County.

The new pilot program allows active-duty service members who are transitioning to civilian life and who currently reside on military installations or housing located in Bexar County, but outside San Antonio city limits, to enroll in Ready to Work.
Military-connected individuals interested in participating can learn more about Ready to Work at the readytoworksa.com website, which will be available for pilot program applications upon the launch of the initiative on May 1.
