
Longhorn Dam Multimodal Improvements
November 2025 Project Update
Construction continues on the Longhorn Dam Multimodal Improvements project. This project will provide a new wishbone-shaped bicycle and pedestrian bridge to connect the Ann & Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail and a new underpass beneath South Pleasant Valley Road for pedestrians and bicyclists. Substantial completion for the project is expected by the end of the year.
Completed Tasks
- All sprinkler systems installed
- Trees, bushes and plants planted throughout the project
- All three below deck planters installed and waterproofed
- Bike racks installed on the Wishbone Bridge
- Permanent irrigation systems installed along the Wishbone Bridge and plaza area
- All electrical conduit work completed in the Unity Underpass
Ongoing Tasks
- Installation of "Maraca" Benches in the plaza area
- Drinking water fountain installation at the Canterbury entrance
- Clean-up of Roy Montelongo Scenic Overlook
- Installation of light poles at both entrances of the Unity Underpass
- Electrical work for the Wishbone Bridge and Unity Underpass
- Vine screens around the pergola columns in the plaza of the Wishbone Bridge
Construction Impacts
- The current traffic pattern along Canterbury Street will remain in place throughout the duration of the project.

Reminders
- The construction site is for authorized personnel only.
- City of Austin permitted construction hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Construction workers and trucks typically arrive around 7 a.m. to begin working at 7:30 a.m.
