Old Lampasas Dam Modernization
January 2025
Work has now begun on excavation for the Old Lampasas Dam Modernization project. Communities are advised to expect increased noise in the area during regular construction hours as we begin this next phase of work.
The trees and boulders that were cleared during the first phase of construction have been transported for use as part of the City of Austin's Cities Connecting Children to Nature initiative. Organizations such as Austin ISD, the Trail Conservancy, Festival Beach Food Forest, and more are turning the repurposed materials into nature play features and outdoor classroom spaces for children and families across Austin.

Project Background
Built in 1984, the Old Lampasas Dam is a high-risk dam that is in poor condition and was significantly damaged during Tropical Storm Hermine in 2010. This project will repair the dam, bring the dam into compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) dam safety regulations, reduce flood risks in the neighborhood, and improve water quality in Bull Creek.
