Ready to Work is the Bridge to Belief:

  • Belief in every person’s ability to contribute;
  • Belief in every person’s right to pursue happiness;
  • Belief in the value of traditional and non-traditional education; and
  • Belief that we all have the power to change the future when we work together.

From the desk of Mike Ramsey, Executive Director of the City of San Antonio's Workforce Development Office

Mike Ramsey

April is an exciting month, and it’s filled with lots of news, updates, and events you won’t want to miss.

First, we celebrate National Fair Housing Month, the 55th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act in 1968. This law became a civil rights landmark for equitable homeownership opportunities and prohibited discrimination in housing. San Antonio has always been a proud advocate for fair housing rights. Our own Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) improves homes while simultaneously protecting the historical, cultural, architectural, and archaeological resources that make San Antonio unique.  OHP is hosting public events throughout April to celebrate Fair Housing Month. For more information, visit them on Instagram and Facebook.

Secondly, to align with Fair Housing Month, Ready to Work will host a Community Champion Collaborative for housing-specific community-based organizations (CBOs) where we’ll identify ways to collaborate to better serve our shared population. We look forward to meeting with these organizations and integrating Ready to Work’s vast resources into their network. Please join us (April 11 at 8:30am) and become a Ready to Work Community Champion.  Register here.

Finally, Viva Fiesta! Be on the lookout for Ready to Work teams throughout the city. Come say hello, grab a fan or a paleta, and help us spread the word about San Antonio’s unprecedented training and employment program. Viva Ready to Work!

With sincere gratitude,

Mike Ramsey
