Frederick County Releases Preliminary Results of Adamstown Well Water Testing

FREDERICK, Md. – County Executive Jessica Fitzwater announced that initial well water tests in Adamstown show no contamination linked to data center development at the former Alcoa Eastalco site. Fitzwater initiated water well testing after hearing community concerns about potential contamination, and the Frederick County Health Department coordinated testing.

There was no pattern in the well water testing that linked results to the former Alcoa Eastalco site. Tests did not detect fluoride, which would be expected if the site was the source of contamination. Testing results show naturally occurring metals and levels of contamination typically seen near farms, households, railroad tracks, and industrial sites.

Samples were collected and analyzed by Fredericktowne Labs, which is a State of Maryland Certified Water Testing Laboratory. The Frederick County Health Department reviewed well files, inspected wells, and discussed results with well owners. Ten wells in Adamstown were tested, with some results still pending. The lab tested for a total of 117 possible contaminants.

The Frederick County Health Department is working directly with well owners to explain results and provide guidance. Community members concerned about their well water are encouraged to contact a local certified lab or reach out to the Frederick County Health Department’s Environmental Health office at 301-600-1719.
