Eagle Market Street project receives TDA LIFT funding

The City of Asheville was awarded $721,120 from the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority’s Legacy Investment From Tourism (LIFT) Fund. The TDA Board voted to allocate the funds at their September 30 meeting, supporting LIFT Committee recommendations to fund enhancements to the cultural gateway feature, commemorative elements and crosswalk improvements, out of an overall $2,850,000 request. The funding is in recognition of the Eagle and Market Street Enhancements project in The Block as aligned with tourism-related goals of increasing foot traffic on The Block and benefiting the community at large in Buncombe County.

Business Support During Construction will be enhanced through partnership with ADID

Asheville City Council has approved $175,000 in construction impact mitigation funding as part of a Downtown Municipal Service District sales tax revenue investment, directly benefiting stakeholders during several construction of City-led projects downtown, including the upcoming Eagle and Market Street Enhancements project. Supported by the Asheville Downtown Improvement District (ADID), this program will provide corridor-specific business continuity support, wayfinding, and neighborhood marketing to minimize disruption throughout construction. Read the full press release for additional details on the City-ADID partnership and downtown support initiatives.

Eagle Market Street design updates

The Design Team is working on conceptual design plans that incorporate the recently announced LIFT investments. Community engagement will take place later this year with an opportunity to evaluate early concepts and provide feedback on the proposed streetscape design, neighborhood identity and wayfinding elements, and the cultural gateway feature.

Stay tuned for more updates on community engagement opportunities as information becomes available.
