Shoal Creek Trail Extension

The City of Austin is working on an extension of the Shoal Creek Trail along Neils Thompson Drive and Longhorn Boulevard—from Burnet Road to the Shoal Creek headwaters. This project is all about making it easier, safer, and more comfortable for everyone to get around—whether you're walking, biking, driving, or doing business in the area. 

Once complete, the trail will connect to improvements along Burnet Road and Rutland Drive, helping folks get to and from North Austin neighborhoods, Q2 Stadium, and nearby research and commercial hubs. In a citywide context this project helps to connect the Big Loop, which envisions joining the Butler Trail, Red Line Trail, Southern and Northern Walnut Creek Trails, and the Shoal Creek Trail. 

From the Shoal Creek headwaters to Industrial Terrace 

City staff are looking at ways to improve the trail design so it works well for everyone—especially large truck access, on-street parking and overall trail comfort. A proposed cross-section is shown below:
