Special Events Safety Tips

Pedestrians

  • Stay alert and cautious
  • Allow extra travel time
  • Cross at signalized crossings when available
  • Abide by signage

Motorists

  • Be alert and cautious
  • Obey all signage
  • Be on the lookout for pedestrians 

 

Closures related to the Charlotte SHOUT Festival: 

  • Levine Avenue of the Arts between Tryon Street and Church Street – March 31 to April 21. 

  • 8th Street between Brevard Avenue and the light rail tracks – March 31 to April 21. 

  • Cedar Street between Trade Street and 5th Street – April 10 to April 13.


 

April 19: Charlotte Racefest Half Marathon & 10K 

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. at Symphony Park on Barclay Downs Drive. The participants will travel along Barclay Downs Drive towards Runnymede Lane, Sharon Road, to Providence Road. Runners will then go through Olde Providence North, Governor’s Square, Foxcroft, and returning to Symphony Park. This race consists of a half marathon and a 10K route as well.  

Event organizers expect 2,100 participants.

April 26: Elizabeth 8K  

The event begins at 8 a.m. at Bartow Court at N. Torrence Street. Runners will travel up N. Torrence Street towards Park Drive, Charlottetowne Avenue, around Independence Park.  Runners will then go towards Chantilly Park, 7th Street, N. Caswell Road, Greenway Avenue, Cameron Avenue, 5th Street, N. Dotger Avenue, Vail Avenue, N. Laurel Avenue, 5th Street, and back to Independence Park. The event will conclude at Travis Avenue and Bartow Court.

Event organizers expect 1,000 participants.

April 26: Walk MS: Charlotte 

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at Rizzo Park, Brixham Hill Avenue, Ballantyne Corporate Place, and through the parking lots of the Ballantyne Corporate Center.   

Event organizers expect 1,300 participants.

April 27: The Loop 5K 

The event begins at 8 a.m. on Rexford Road. The participants will travel along Rexford Road to Colony Road, Cameron Valley Parkway, Fairview Road, Assembly Street, Carnegie Boulevard, Coca-Cola Plaza, and conclude on Rexford Road.  

Event organizers expect 1,000 participants.

May 2-4:  Lovin’ Life Music Festival 

The concerts begin each day at 2 p.m. 

The following is a list of street closures related to the festival: 

April 26 

8 a.m. - 8th Street between Caldwell Street and Brevard Street.

April 28 

8 a.m. - 8th Street between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks.

7 a.m. - Caldwell Street two lanes between 7th Street and 9th Street. 

9 a.m. - 7th Street between Caldwell Street and Brevard Street. 

9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Brevard Street left lane between 9th Street and 7th Street. 

9 a.m. - 9th Street between Caldwell Street and Brevard Street one lane east bound.

April 29 

7 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Caldwell Street two lanes between 7th and 9th Street. 

9 a.m. - 7 p.m.: Brevard Street left lane between 9th Street and 7th Street. 

April 30 

The following will close at 9 a.m.: 

  • 9th Street between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks.

  • 8th Street between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks.

  • 7th Street between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks. 

  • Brevard Street between 9th Street and 6th Street. 

  • Caldwell Street between 9th Street and 6th Street. 

May 6 

12 a.m.:  Everything reopens except 8th Street between Brevard Street and Caldwell Street; there will be periodic lane closures for site breakdown but no full closures. 

Event organizers expect 15,000 attendees each day.

May 2: Kendrick Lamar & SZA Pre-Concert Festival 

The event begins at 1 p.m. on May 3 and ends at 4:30 p.m.  

S. Mint Street between W. Morehead Street and 1st Street, Brooklyn Village Avenue between S. Church Street and S. Mint Street, S. Graham Street between S. Mint Street and W. Martin Luther King Boulevard closures will begin on May 2 at 7 p.m. and will reopen on May 3 at 11:30 p.m. 

Event organizers expect 2,500 participants. 


 

May 10: 2025 Meck Mile 

The event begins at 8 a.m. on Armory Drive. The participants will travel along Armory Drive to the sidewalks along Charlottetowne Avenue. Runners will then travel along Sam Ryburn Walk back to the starting area.  

Event organizers expect 1,000 participants.

May 10: 2025 HEARTest Yard 5K 

The event begins at 8 a.m. at Atrium Health Myers Park. The participants will travel along Maryland Avenue, Princeton Avenue, Jameston Drive, Lynnwood Drive, Sterling Road, Queens Road W., and conclude at Atrium Health Myers Park.  

Event organizers expect 600 participants.

May 20: Meck Dec Day  

This event begins at 12 p.m. and ends at 1 p.m.  

S. Tryon between Trade Street and 4th Street will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. 

Event organizers expect approximately 100 attendees. 


 

May 25: Camden Commons  

This event begins at 2 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. 

Camden Road between Tremont Avenue and East/West Boulevards will be closed from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.  

Event organizer expects approximately 1,000 attendees.
