Member Newsletter: March 15, 2024

The first membership meeting of the Asheville-Buncombe Continuum of Care on February 29, 2024 saw the formal adoption of the CoC Governance Charter. This action solidifies this collaborative body as the Asheville-Buncombe Continuum of Care - an enormous milestone for our community. If you were unable to attend the meeting, you can read the meeting materials including the agenda, minutes, and presentation slides. 

Apply to be on the CoC Board

The CoC Board Member Application is open. The board process will follow the following timeline:

• March 22nd: Board applications due
• March 25th - April 12th: Nominating and Membership Committee will review and assess applications, confirm eligibility, and interview candidates
• April 18th: CoC Membership meeting materials will be published, including the full list of Board Member applicants and slate developed by the Nominating and Membership Committee
• April 25th: CoC Membership meeting to vote to elect the new CoC Board. Additional membership orientations will be available in March and April so that members can become eligible to vote prior to this meeting.

Invite your networks to join the CoC

Do you know someone - either an individual and an organization - who has an interest in ending homelessness in our community? Invite them to become a member of the CoC! This body will only be as effective as those who are part of the membership, so we want and need all voices at the table.

April 25, 2024 - Full Membership Meeting

The next membership meeting of the Asheville-Buncombe CoC will take place on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Harrah's Cherokee Center of Asheville Banquet Hall. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. 

At this meeting, members will vote on a slate of board nominees, electing the new CoC board. As a reminder, all members must attend a membership orientation in order to be eligible to vote.

New Members - Attend a CoC Membership Orientation

In-person membership orientations will take place throughout March and April ahead of the April 25th meeting. Please register for an orientation ahead of time. Orientations will take place:

Sunday, March 24th at 2 p.m. - Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Community Center

Tuesday, April 9th at 6 p.m. - Pack Memorial Library

Friday, April 12th at 12 p.m. - Amerihealth Caritas Wellness Center

Tuesday, April 16th at 1 p.m. - Goodwill Career Center

In each newsletter, we will spotlight one of the shared values and guiding principles described in the Governance Charter. All CoC members agree to adhere to these as part of a commitment to building a collaborative approach to ending homelessness.

Value the Voice of People with Lived Experience

The CoC will invest through coaching, mentoring, and leadership development for people with lived experience who work to end homelessness. People experiencing homelessness will be represented at all decision-making tables, where their perspectives and voices will help shape policies and guidelines in the system.
