Progress Continues to Restore Lexington Avenue Sidewalk

The City of Asheville is pleased to report that the Lexington Avenue Sidewalk Restoration project has reached the 60 percent design milestone. The project team is on track to kick off construction in 2026. 

Survey work continues, and any impacts will be communicated accordingly. 

Up Next: Stakeholder Meeting to Share Design Plans and Discuss Construction Impacts

The project team continues to be grateful for public and stakeholder interest in this important sidewalk project, which was evident at community meetings in February of this year. While we have progressed at the expected rate on the design plans, we still have work to do before we can meaningfully discuss construction impacts. Please stay tuned for a stakeholder meeting announcement later this summer, where we will outline the construction schedule and discuss how we plan to minimize disruptions.

About the Project

The Lexington Avenue Sidewalk Restoration project entails a full restoration of the sidewalk on both sides of North Lexington Avenue between Woodfin Street/Hiawassee Street and Walnut Street. The goal of the project is to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility, enhance the overall experience of the street, and reduce future maintenance needs.
