An Update on Weaver Park Improvements

We've received a few inquiries about the status of this community investment project. Please forward this email to neighbors and friends who may also be anxiously anticipating connecting, exploring, and playing in this space.

In any project, schedules are predicted as accurately as possible. However, they often change due to the nature of construction, weather, supply chain or labor shortages, and unexpected discoveries. Latest updates to this project include:

• Contractors are working to complete remaining work at the park as quickly as possible so the ballfield and playground can open and be enjoyed by our community
• Completed ballfield improvements include dugouts, fencing, batting cage, and bullpen upgrades with electrical work and installation of visitor seating still to take place
• New playground is installed and final safety features are scheduled for installation
• Grading work for walking loop is in progress
• Ballfield, playground, and walking loop are expected to open in May
• Please DO NOT enter construction area: Fenced enclosure ensures safety of the community and construction crews while work continues on walking loop

It's Almost Like a Brand New Park 

Weaver Park has received quite the glow up in the past three years, including:

• New ballfield lighting
• Rebuilt dual-lined tennis and pickleball courts and new seating, fencing, and lighting
• Resurfaced basketball court with new goals
• Repaved parking lots repaved
• Rerouted Glenn’s Creek Greenway with better accessibility over a new pedestrian bridge connecting both sections of the park

Just the Latest Chapter for Weaver Park 

Named for the man who played a large role in modernizing Asheville’s image with his streetcar network and hydraulic energy production, Weaver Park represents a turning point for the city’s parks. With a few exceptions, Asheville had yet to embrace parks as multi-use spaces featuring varied amenities like ballfields, tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, and picnic shelters in one location to bring recreation directly into neighborhoods.
