Annual Water Treatment Method Switch
From March 1st through April 14th, the Cary/Apex Water Treatment Plant will switch from chloramine disinfection to free chlorine disinfection. The Town conducts this process in conjunction with other communities in the area each year, as mandated by State and Federal regulatory agencies.
A few things you might experience:
- Low water pressure: As part of this process, the Town's entire water distribution system will be flushed, which could result in temporary low water pressure.
- Slight chlorine taste or odor: Throughout this process, the water will remain safe to drink; however, some consumers may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor.
- Water discoloration: We encourage customers to check their water for discoloration before washing white clothing. If the water appears discolored, try flushing your household lines by running water through all household faucets for a few minutes. If flushing fails to clear the water, please contact Water Resources at (919) 362-8166 for further assistance.
Customers that use tap water for kidney dialysis machines or fish aquariums should be aware that during this period the water may contain chloramine, chlorine, or a mixture of the two at the beginning and end of this period.
