Little Walnut Creek Flood Risk Reduction Project
Starting the week of March 17th, the City of Austin will close the intersection of Quail Valley Boulevard and Mearns Meadow Boulevard near Cook Elementary School for road work. Families will still be able access the school via Cripple Creek Drive during the closure. This new route is set to begin for Cook on March 24th.

Construction Impacts
- Road clean up along Mearns Meadow planned for the next week
- Traffic Control on street planned to switch directions
- Continued communication on traffic control with residents on Mearns Meadow know that they will be switching directions for them to go out Mountain Quail.
- Noise, vibration, and dust are expected during construction.
For Cook Elementary School Access:
- Please plan to arrive at the school via Cripple Creek Dr towards Quail Valley Blvd, through the school parking lot on Quail Valley.
- Please allow for extra time before student drop-off and pickup to avoid traffic-related delays.
- Please avoid cutting through using Quail Ridge Dr. to avoid any conflict points
Completed Tasks:
- Installed 13 foot by 10 foot box culverts up to Mountain Quail Road intersection along Mearns Meadow Blvd.
- Installed wastewater lines up to Mountain Quail Road intersection along Mearns Meadow Blvd.
- Installed 8 foot by 8 foot box culverts on Mountain Quail Road and a weir structure at Little Walnut Creek up to the junction box with 13 foot by 10 foot box culverts along Mearns Meadow Blvd.
- Intersection of Mountain Quail Road and Mearns Meadow Boulevard has been paved. Final repaving will be completed at the end of the project.
Ongoing tasks:
- Continuing to install box culverts and curb inlets between Mountain Quail Road and Quail Valley Blvd. along Mearns Meadow Blvd.
- Continuing to install wastewater lines and connect services from Mountain Quail Road and Quail Valley Blvd. along Mearns Meadow Blvd.
- Restoration and landscaping at storm weir structures on Mountain Quail Road and Quail Valley Blvd.
Reminders:
- The construction site is for authorized personnel only. Full Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) must be worn by anyone in the construction area.
- City of Austin permitted construction hours are:
- Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Saturday, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m., Note: work will be taking place every
Saturday this month.
- Note: Monday – Friday: People and trucks arrive around 6:30 a.m.
to start at 7 a.m. Some trades may work 12-hour days but
daylight hours only.
