Dear Members,
I hope this message finds you well. Following our recent Continuum of Care membership meeting on April 25, I wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for the invaluable feedback we received from you.
Your input has been carefully considered and discussed within the Nominating and Membership committee. We recognize the importance of transparency and inclusivity in our processes, and your contributions help us uphold these principles.
In light of your feedback, we've identified five key categories of concern:
- Challenges associated with voting by slate: This includes any challenges members encountered while voting for candidates presented as a single slate. While this process is outlined in the charter adopted by the CoC membership, we acknowledge the significance of communicating procedures through diverse channels to ensure comprehensive understanding among all members.
- Transparency within the board selection process: We aim to provide clearer insight into how board members are selected and appointed, ensuring transparency and understanding among the CoC membership. Moving forward, this will include communicating not only who is selected for the board slate but also which applicants are not chosen.
- Accessibility: Encompassing both physical access to meetings and accommodations for all members, we are committed to making our processes and meetings as accessible as possible.
- Interpersonal and relational challenges: We recognize the importance of fostering positive relationships and resolving any conflicts or challenges that may arise, and we are actively working on establishing communication channels that enable members to address their concerns effectively.
- Positive feedback: We value your affirmations and commendations, which help guide and motivate the efforts of this committee to serve the CoC membership body and the community.
As we move forward, we aim to address these areas thoughtfully and effectively within the scope of our role as the Nominating and Membership committee. Specifically, we are committed to:
- Sharing specific feedback directly with the board.
- Introducing a Membership Engagement Form, currently under review by the committee, to facilitate ongoing dialogue and input within the CoC membership.
At this interim period of the newly formed CoC membership, the Nominating and Membership Committee's role remains pivotal in ensuring the continuity of the CoC’s functions and fostering an environment of open communication and collaboration. We are dedicated to overseeing the nominating and membership processes, promoting transparency and inclusivity, and facilitating constructive engagement among the CoC membership. While many concerns and issues now fall under the purview of the board, our committee remains dedicated to fostering ongoing communication and transparency with board members. We will share the lessons learned thus far and any feedback we receive from CoC members to ensure that your voices continue to be heard and considered in the decision-making process. Your participation and engagement are vital to the success of our community, and we're deeply appreciative of your commitment to our shared goal of ending homelessness.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in the Continuum of Care.
Sincerely,
Lance Crawford
Chair, Nominating & Membership Committee
