Community Needs Assessment

Every year, we conduct a Needs Assessment as part of creating our annual Action Plan. The Action Plan decides how to distribute approximately $14 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The programs from this grant fund affordable housing, job creation, and public service needs for low- and moderate-income families, persons with disabilities, and seniors.

Complete the Needs Assessment survey to help advocate for what your community needs. The input received also informs decisions for other funding sources, policies and programs. There are a few ways you can participate:

  • Attend a Public Hearing:
  • Tuesday, April 14 - Community Development Commission - 6:30pm @ Austin City Hall
  • Thursday, April 23 - Austin City Council  - 11:00am @ Austin City Hall
  • Take the Survey: www.SpeakUpAustin.org/MyCommunityNeeds

Highlights from the Anchored in Housing Stability Workshop

The Anchored in Housing Stability workshop held on November 8, 2025, hosted by our partner Laveer Logix, supported attendees in managing their housing options and helped them feel connected to real resources.

“The class was great! We’re very appreciative that we got to attend because we now understand that we need to save when we can and prepare ourselves that things are going to be okay because we’re being heard and our city does care about us… Jobs are out here and the connection was there for us.”

Participants noted that the budgeting sessions were especially helpful in reinforcing positive financial habits, and that connecting with Workforce Solutions provided a clear starting point toward employment and long-term stability. Topics covered include:

  • Budgeting basics and financial planning
  • “Small Changes, Big Impact” strategies for saving and stability
  • The Survival Budget Challenge
  • Employment and workforce pathways
  • Connections to partner organizations and community resources
  • Family-friendly supports and on-site resources
