Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center Phase 2 Improvements Project Update

- Foundation piers for the circular shade structure at the zocalo or plaza are in progress.
- The new elevator pit has been formed and poured. Demolition of old elevator is underway.
- The below ground south stairs and building addition foundation system are complete.
- The mechanical room in the Central Utility Plant (CUP) is being made ready for final connections to the Austin Energy (AE) Chilled Water District Cooling Network. Project engineers are ensuring that equipment is in proper working order and compliant with AE requirements.
- The stucco wall finish on the Central Utility Plant has been installed.
- Level one concrete slab pours are planned for July.
- Structural steel erection is planned for this month and marks the beginning of vertical construction.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Concrete pours are planned for July, steel delivery is expected in August. Work hours will adhere to the City’s noise ordinance. Ordinance information can be found here.
- The Confluence, a separate public/private partnership project to stabilize and protect the ecology of Waller Creek, improve water quality, and create a continuous hike and bike trail along the creek is expected to increase activities at the MACC, as the parking lot is the construction access point for the east side of the creek delta. Weekend activity is planned for June 2024. Additional information can be found here.

SCHEDULED MILESTONES
- Construction began – August 28, 2023
- Anticipated completion of all major construction activity – Summer 2025
- Anticipated grand opening – Fall 2025
