Special Events Safety Tips

Motorists and Pedestrians

  • Plan ahead.
  • Stay alert and remain cautious.
  • Lookout for each other.
  • Use pedestrian crossings. 
  • Obey the signs.

October 25: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. on Carnegie Boulevard. Participants will travel to Barclay Downs Drive, Ferncliff Road, Ayscough Road, Wickersham Road, Merrifield Road, Clarendon Road, Colony Road, Roxborough Road, Rexford Road, Coca Cola Plaza, and conclude on Carnegie Boulevard.  

Event organizers expect 2,000 participants.

October 25: Running Scared 5K / Monster Mile 

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. on Rexford Road. Participants will travel to Carnegie Boulevard, Barclay Downs Drive, Ferncliff Road, Ayscough Road, Wickersham Road, Merrifield Road, Clarendon Road, Colony Road, Roxborough Road, and conclude on Rexford Road. 

Event organizers expect 500 participants.

October 25: NoDa Freaky 5K 

The event begins at 5 p.m. on Yadkin Avenue. Participants will travel to Charles Avenue, Whiting Avenue, Holt Street, 36th Street, Alexander Street, 35th Street, Wesley Avenue, Charles Avenue and conclude on Yadkin Avenue.    

Event organizers expect 300 participants.

October 25: JCSU Home Football Game Festival 

This event begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m.  

Closures will begin at 8 a.m., and streets will reopen at 7 p.m. Closures include Summit Avenue between 5th Street and Andrill Terrace and Martin Street between Summit Avenue and 5th Street. 

Event organizers expect 3,000 participants. 


 

October 26: Bud Light Backyard 

This event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m.  

Closures will begin at 5 a.m. and streets will reopen at 6 p.m. Closures will include Mint Street between Morehead Street and 1st Street, Graham Street between Mint Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and Brooklyn Village Avenue between Church Street and Mint Street. 

Event organizers expect 2,000 participants.


 

October 31: Mount Moriah Church Fall Festival 

This event begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9:30 p.m.  

Closures will begin at 1 p.m. and streets will reopen at 11 p.m. Closures include the left-turn lane on 4th Street onto Cedar Street. 

Event organizers expect 250 participants. 


 

November 1: 2025 Charlotte Walk ALS 

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. on Carnegie Boulevard. Participants will travel to Barclay Downs Drive, Fairview Road, Sharon Road and conclude on Carnegie Boulevard.  

Event organizers expect 1,000 participants.

November 1: 2025 Hopebuilders 5K 

The event begins at 9 a.m. on Mint Street. Participants will travel to 3rd Street, Church Street, Morehead Street, Grandin Road, Wesley Heights Greenway, Irwin Avenue, 4th Street and conclude on Mint Street.  

Event organizers expect 600 participants.

November 1: 2025 HeroRun 5K 

The event begins at 8 a.m. on Park South Drive. Participants will travel to Sulkirk Road, Harbin Avenue, Sussex Avenue, Brookfield Drive, Severn Avenue, Long Meadow Road, Stokes Avenue, Royal Crest Road Piedmont Row Drive and conclude on Executive Park Drive.  

Event organizers expect 325 participants.

November 1: Friendship CDC Walk/Run 

The event begins at 9 a.m. on McAllister Drive. Participants will travel to Missionary Avenue, Friendship Village Plaza, and the sidewalks along Beatties Ford Road, before concluding on McAllister Drive.  

Event organizers expect 1,000 participants.

November 8: Salute to Veteran’s Parade 

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on N. Tryon Street at 9th Street.  

  • 8 a.m.: N. Tryon Street between 9th Street and 13th Street, as well as the cross streets, will close.  

  • 8 a.m. - 10 a.m.: Cross streets from 9th Street to 3rd Street will close.  

  • Shortly before 11 a.m.: N. Tryon Street from 9th Street to 4th Street will close.  

Event organizers expect 100 units in the parade and over 2,400 spectators.

November 15: Novant Health Charlotte Marathon 

The event begins at 7 a.m. on N Tryon Street. Participants will travel through Eastover, Myers Park, Dilworth, South End, Wilmore, Greenway, Noda, Plaza Midwood, finishing in Uptown.  

Event organizers expect 12,000 participants.

November 15: Light the Night Walk 

The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at American Legion Memorial Stadium. Participants will travel to Sam Ryburn Walk, the sidewalks of Elizabeth Avenue, Armory Drive, and conclude inside Memorial Stadium.

November 22: St. Nektarios Taking Steps 5K 

The event begins at 8 a.m. on Kuykendall Road. Participants will travel to Lancelot Drive, High Ridge Road, Houston Branch Road, Brook Hollow Road, Valentine Lane, Meadow Haven Lane, Rhett Butler Place, Beaucatcher Lane, Grey Moss Road, High Ridge Road, Nancy Creek Road, Goshen Lane, Lancelot Drive, and conclude on Kuykendall Road.  

Event organizers expect 400 participants.

November 22: Jingle Bell Run 5K 

The event begins at 9 a.m. on Mint Street. Participants will travel to 4th Street, Walnut Avenue, 2nd Street, Grandin Road, Morehead Street, Summit Avenue, Greenway, Cedar Street, 4th Street, and conclude on Mint Street.  

Event organizers expect 600 participants.

November 26: Novant Health Thanksgiving Parade 

The parade begins on November 26 at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Street closures will begin on November 24 for set up.  

11/24  

  • 6 p.m.:   

  • Tryon Street between Brooklynn Village Avenue and Good Samaritan Way. 

11/25 

  • 10 p.m.:   

  • Tryon Street between 9th Street and 11th Street. 

  • 9th Street between College Street and Church Street. 

  • 10th Street between Church Street and Tryon Street. 

  • Montford Point between Tryon Street and College Street. 

11/26 

  • 4 p.m.: 

  • Tryon Street between 9th Street and Morehead Street. 

  • All cross streets along Tryon Street between College Street and Church Street.  

All streets will reopen at 11:59 p.m. on November 26. 

Event organizers expect 100,000 participants.

November 27: Charlotte Turkey Trot 

The event begins at 8 a.m. on Carnegie Boulevard. Participants will travel to Barclay Downs Boulevard, Runnymede Lane, Selwyn Avenue, Colony Road, Sharon Road, Ferncliffe Road, Richardson Drive, Colony Road, Roxborough Road, Rexford Road, Coca Cola Plaza, Carnegie Boulevard, and conclude at South Park Mall. 

Event organizers expect 15,000 participants.

November 27: Turkey Dash Charlotte 

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. on Providence Road West. Participants will travel to Rea Road, Ardrey Kell Road, Blakeney Heath Road, Parks Farm Lane, Rea Road, and conclude on Providence Road West. 

Event organizers expect 1,800 participants.

The event begins at 8 a.m. on Prosperity Church Road near Mallard Creek Road. Participants will travel to Prosperity Ridge Road, turn around and return to the start location.
