public works crews working to pave a road

Gashes Creek neighbors,

We wanted to update you on upcoming changes to traffic patterns in your area:

  • Temporary traffic signals are planned to be operational by next week to help regulate traffic flow, weather permitting.

  • The goal is to temporarily transition the current one-lane road section of Azalea Road E. to a two-lane road by the end of next week. This temporary change has been reviewed and approved by Asheville Fire, Public Works, and Transportation. Traffic signing and other field adjustments are still needed to maximize safety.

  • The gate at Highland Brewing will remain open until all storm debris is clear or March 31, 2025, whichever occurs first.

  • Azalea Road E. (current detour route) will be closed to thru traffic to allow storm debris removal efforts to proceed efficiently. The Azalea Road E. will reopen fully when storm debris is clear. Residents in Gashes Creek can still travel this road, however, residents should be cautious as storm debris contractors will be using large equipment on or near the roadways.

Full restoration of permanent infrastructure will take time. The City is actively working through the FEMA Public Assistance process to secure funding and ensure long-term repairs are completed as efficiently as possible. For more information on the process to restore infrastructure across the City, click here: Restoring City-Owned Infrastructure Through the FEMA Public Assistance Program.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as these improvements take place. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Best regards,
