Annual Water System Maintenance Begins March 1
From March 1st through April 10th, the Cary/Apex Water Treatment Plant will switch from chloramine disinfection to free chlorine disinfection. The Town conducts this process in collaboration with other communities in the area, as mandated by State and Federal regulatory agencies.
A few things you might notice:
- Low water pressure: As part of this process, the Town's entire water distribution system will be flushed, which could result in temporary low water pressure.
- Slight chlorine taste or odor: Throughout this process, the water will remain safe to drink; however, some consumers may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor.
- Water discoloration: We encourage customers to check their water for discoloration before washing white clothing. If the water appears discolored, try flushing your household lines by running water through all household faucets for a few minutes. If flushing fails to clear the water, please contact Water Resources at (919) 362-8166 for assistance.
Customers that use tap water for kidney dialysis machines or fish aquariums should be aware that during this period the water may contain chloramine, chlorine, or a mixture of the two at the beginning and end of this period.

Reminders from Last Month's Issue:
Apex’s Future Transit Hub: See the Concepts & Give Feedback
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the Town of Apex are exploring options for a future mobility hub along the S-Line railroad – the tracks that run parallel to Salem Street in downtown Apex. This study will help determine the best location, what services and amenities the hub should include, and estimated costs. Learn more at www.publicinput.com/ApexHub.
Join us for a public open house on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 4–6 PM in the Salem Room at the Senior Center (63 Hunter Street). The preferred location and initial plans will be shared. Presentations will take place at 4:15 PM and 5:15 PM (both are the same). Between presentations, you can explore informational boards and talk with staff.
Why Should You Attend?
- Help shape a key transportation project that will impact the future of Apex.
- Ensure the mobility hub includes services and amenities that meet community needs.
What is a Mobility Hub?
A mobility hub is a central spot where different types of transportation – like buses, bikes, and rideshare services – connect. These hubs often include public spaces and amenities that support easy and efficient travel.

Seeking Feedback on White Oak Creek Mural
In 2024, the Public Art Committee held a call for artists to submit mural concepts for a retaining wall along White Oak Creek Greenway. Sean Kernick, winner of that call, submitted a mural that showcases local wildlife and plant life found in the White Oak Creek area through the color wheel. His concept will be painted along a stretch of greenway that is part of the National East Coast Greenway and connects community members to Durham County, Chatham County, Wake County, and the Town of Cary.
on his proposed mural now through February 28th!
