London Road Sidewalk Improvements Project Enters Design Phase

The City of Asheville has officially been given the green light to move into the design phase for the London Road Sidewalk Improvements project, a key project funded by the 2024 General Obligation Bond. With City Council approval of a contract with NV5 Engineers and Consultants, Inc. at their September 9 meeting, this significant milestone marks the next step in improving connectivity between the residential Shiloh area and the commercial and industrial areas on Sweeten Creek Road and in Biltmore Village.

This project will install sidewalks on the north end of London Road from Belvedere Road to Sweeten Creek Road, including curb ramps, crosswalks, and accessible bus boarding areas. Stormwater improvement opportunities will also be assessed during project design.

The need for pedestrian safety improvements on London Road was identified as a priority in the City of Asheville Greenway, ADA, and Pedestrian (GAP) Plan. This project exemplifies the City’s dedication to improving mobility, safety, and connectivity for pedestrians on City streets.

The design phase is anticipated to take approximately one year to complete. Following the finalization of design plans, construction is estimated to begin in early 2027.

The City will continue to provide updates on London Road Sidewalk Improvements as the project progresses. Stay informed by subscribing for updates on the project page.
