Special Events Safety Tips

Motorists and Pedestrians

  • Plan ahead.
  • Stay alert and remain cautious.
  • Lookout for each other.
  • Use pedestrian crossings. 
  • Obey the signs.

August 16: 2026 Charlotte Pride Parade  

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. on N. Tryon Street at 9th Street. 

  • 8 a.m.: Cross streets between 9th Street and 13th Street on N. Tryon, as well as N. Tryon Street between those blocks, will close. 

  • 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Cross streets from 9th Street to 4th Street will close. 

  • Shortly before 1 p.m.: N. Tryon Street from 9th Street to 4th Street will close. 

Event organizers expect 150 units in the parade and over 250,000 spectators.

August 22: Tour de Turns Charity Ride 

The event begins at 8 a.m. and involves 4 different cycling routes that range from a 15-mile route to a 62-mile route. All routes stay within a 6 square mile area through the neighborhoods of Quail Hollow, Olde Georgetowne, and Providence. 

Event organizers expect 275 participants.

August 22: Market on Camden  

The event begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.  

Closures begin at 7 a.m. and include Camden Road between Tremont Avenue and East/West Boulevard and will reopen at 5:30 p.m. 

Event organizers expect 1,000 participants.

August 23: Black Men’s Wellness Walk/Run  

The event begins at 7 a.m. on Violet Drive. Participants will travel to Monroe Road, Firefighter Place, Weddington Avenue, Bascom Street, Chesterfield Avenue, Pecan Avenue,7th Street, concluding on Colonnade Drive.  

Event organizers expect 2,500 participants.

August 29: Community Matters Cafe 5K  

The event begins at 8 a.m. on West First Street. Participants will travel to South Cedar Street and then onto the Wesley Heights Greenway. They will go out and back on the greenway to Seversville Park, concluding on West First Street.  

Event organizers expect 500 participants.

August 29: Greek Fest 5K  

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. on East Boulevard. Participants will travel to Dilworth Road West, Dilworth Road East, Park Road, Kingston Avenue, Winthrop Avenue, Lyndhurst Avenue, Worthington Avenue, concluding on East Boulevard.   

Event organizers expect 975 participants.

August 29: Gigi’s 5K 

The event begins at 8 a.m. on Kings Parade Boulevard. Participants will travel to Tomlin Way Court, Silver Cres Drive, Bishop Park Drive, Continental Boulevard, concluding on Kings Parade Boulevard.  

Event organizers expect 200 participants.

September 6: 2026 Around the Crown 10K  

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. on Mint Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Participants will travel to Palmer Street and Church Street, and then turn left onto the I-277 Inner Loop on-ramp. Once they are on 277, they will turn back going the opposite direction on the inner loop, going around the perimeter of the city to the Eleventh Street and Church Street exit. From there, they will go return to Church Street and travel to Sixth Street, Fifth Street, Irwin Avenue, Johnson and Wales Way, Fourth Street, Graham Street, Mint Street, concluding at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. 

Event organizers expect 7,500 participants.

September 7: Charlotte Labor Day Parade  

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on N. Tryon Street at 9th Street.  

  • 8 a.m.: N. Tryon Street between 9th Street and 13th Street, as well as the cross streets, will close.  

  • 8 a.m. - 10 a.m.: Cross streets from 9th Street to 3rd Street will close.  

  • Shortly before 11 a.m.: N. Tryon Street from 9th Street to 4th Street will close.  

Event organizers expect 50 units in the parade and over 300 spectators.
