Vendor Development Academy Applications Now Open
The Vendor Development Academy, formerly the Mentor-Protégé Program, is a free, one-year training program designed to help small local businesses grow and compete for contracting opportunities.
Offered in partnership with Alamo Colleges, the academy provides guidance, training, and business development support. Participants are paired with experienced business mentors who help them gain industry insights, refine operations, and expand contracting opportunities.

CO—100 Applications Close in July – $25,000 Opportunity
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s CO—100 program recognizes and celebrates America’s top small businesses. The annual list highlights thriving companies that are driving economic growth and making a positive impact in their communities.
Ten businesses will be recognized as best-in-class across categories such as innovation, marketing, global expansion, and company culture. One outstanding business will earn the title of CO—100 Top Business of 2026.
Award Highlights
- One business will receive a $25,000 grant
- Ten additional businesses will each receive a $2,000 grant
- Apply in up to five award categories

Placemaking Connects Community Pride Through Public Art
Placemaking connects economic development with community pride by transforming public spaces into vibrant destinations that attract talent, investment, and tourism.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the City of San Antonio’s Public Art Ordinance. To celebrate this milestone, the Department of Arts & Culture has launched a new online portal that allows residents and visitors to explore more than 800 city-initiated public artworks located throughout San Antonio.
From large-scale murals and sculptures to neighborhood installations, the collection showcases the creativity, culture, and history that help make San Antonio unique.

Grants, Loans, Contests and More to Benefit Your Small Business
National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE)
NASE members can apply for monthly small business grants of up to $4,000 and an annual $3,000 college scholarship for members' dependents. Grants are awarded year-round, with completed applications reviewed quarterly in January, April, July, and October.

Skills for Small Business Program
Administered by the Texas Workforce Commission, the Skills for Small Business Program helps employers invest in workforce development by covering the cost of job-related training at participating Texas community and technical colleges. Courses can include digital literacy, office management, conflict resolution, and other business-critical skills. To encourage job creation, the program offers enhanced reimbursement opportunities for newly hired employees.
