MCELMO CREEK BRIDGE TAKING SHAPE!

Visible progress continues on the new McElmo Creek Bridge!  An entirely new approach was carved out to the south of the existing bridge, and crews have poured abutments on both sides of the creek.  More recently, all four heavy girders were set in place using two cranes.  These components makeup the primary foundation for the new bridge deck.

PAVING UNDERWAY AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS

Additional crews are actively removing and replacing asphalt from the ground up between the bridge and Montezuma Creek as a part of full road restoration.  This work will continue in sections through late summer.  Motorists are reminded to reduce speeds through this stretch, as multiple shifts in traffic are expected to complete this major reconstructive effort.

Paving has also been underway on SR-262 for over a month, and as of Monday, a fresh overlay is being applied on SR-162 between Aneth and the Colorado border!

ROUNDABOUT CONSTRUCTION AND TRAFFIC BYPASS

We want to be sure to lead this section with a big THANK YOU to Montezuma Creek residents and motorists for your patience during this large-scale intersection upgrade!  An SR-162/262 traffic bypass has been in place since the Easter holiday, and forecasted to remain active through much of the fall season(see image below).  Please see the project website for road bypass instructions.  Early work has focused primarily on clearing vegetation, installing erosion/drainage controls, and removing material at the site.  By July, motorists passing the region should begin to notice the early development of the roundabout structure.  This roundabout promises to enhance safety and mobility for local residents, pedestrians and visitors!

LATEST TRAFFIC UPDATES

Several locations  will continue to require traffic control.  Plan on the continuation of several short distance one-way alternating traffic operations using flaggers and a pilot car.  Despite several traffic hold locations along SR-262, motorists can expect delays under 10 min.  During early morning and late afternoon periods, peak delays along SR-162 between Aneth and Montezuma Creek have been upwards to 15 minutes.  However, in most instances traffic hold times remain under 10 minutes.

UDOT is committed to safety first, so we kindly ask motorists approaching our construction zones to be prepared to come to a complete stop and follow directions from our flaggers.  If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact our project hotline at any time.
