From the Desk of Mike Ramsey: Feeling the Love
It only seems fitting that this February, we're feeling the love both in words and in action. Every day it seems like the San Antonio Ready to Work (RTW) program is breaking another milestone.
Across San Antonio, thousands of residents are believing in their potential and in the power of opportunity through RTW. This month, the average annual salary increase is just under $34,000 and it continues to grow. In 2025, we had a record-breaking 1,849 participants placed into approved jobs, and I'm convinced that number is going to be easily surpassed in 2026. Just last month, we had a surge in applications and re-engagements with the program which reminds us that many people in our City are still looking for this program and the opportunities it can bring.
Hope is growing and our community continues to show up for one another in powerful ways. As you will see in this month's newsletter, there are so many things to love about this program. Our participants are making a change in their lives, the prime partners are helping put those participants in the best situations for success, and we have employers that know a RTW participant can help them in a big way.
Be proud of what you all are doing and have done. No matter how you are involved in the program, share the love and let others know that RTW is making a difference!

Jessica and Chasity Duron - Family Matters
When Jessica and her daughter Chasity walked through the doors of Project QUEST, they were searching for a new beginning. Unemployed but determined, they shared a dream of entering the medical field and building a more secure future for their family.
Through a powerful partnership between Project QUEST, Methodist Healthcare, and Inspire Medical Academy, the mother-daughter duo enrolled in the Patient Care Technician (PCT) program. Their bond and will to succeed allowed them to face every tough exam and clinical rotation side-by-side.
With RTW tuition assistance and some help with transportation funds, the two were able to complete their training and secure full-time positions at Methodist Healthcare in a matter of two months after taking that first class.
Their story is proof that when community partnerships and family determination come together, futures change, cycles are broken, and hope becomes a career.

Job Placement Growth

Another big accomplishment just happened this week as the program surpassed 4,000 approved job placements. Every participant represents a family gaining stability, a resident entering a high-growth career, and a stronger local economy. We are proud to be part of work that’s changing lives across San Antonio!

Attract, Train and Retain
Building a workforce from the ground up can be complicated for a business of any size. The process of bringing in, training and retaining talent can seem like a daunting task.

For businesses, registered apprenticeship programs are a proven way to strengthen a workforce. The time-tested, employer-driven model delivers effective workforce development by allowing them to train new hires and current employees.
“Building a strong workforce doesn’t have to be complicated," City of San Antonio Workforce Development Office Assistant Director Joel Morgan said. "Through Ready to Work, businesses gain a proven partner in developing talent from the ground up. Registered apprenticeships give employers a time-tested, employer‑driven model to train, grow, and retain the skilled workforce they need to thrive.”
Apprenticeships also allow participants to earn while they learn, gain confidence, increase their certifications and wages, and turn a job into a career. That belief and investment in an employee helps fast-track their growth and ability to help the business they work for.
Our City team is looking for businesses to partner with Apprenticeships Building America to strengthen the pipeline and develop job-ready employees through hands-on learning and mentorship.
