Wake County Property Tax – Where to Pay

Earlier this year, Wake County phased out several payment centers to pay property tax bills, including Apex Town Hall. Wake County's website offers options for other in-person and online ways to pay your tax bill!

Service Changes for Martin Luther King Jr Holiday

All Town offices and facilities will be closed Monday, January 19th.

  • Trash and recycling will run on a normal schedule for the week of January 19th.

  • Yard Waste collection will run Tuesday through Friday, with crews collecting as many routes as possible during the shortened work week. Any remaining yard waste will be collected the following week.

Join us in commemorating the life of Martin Luther King, Jr from Friday, January 16th through Monday, January 19th!

  • Friday, January 16th: Black Authors Exhibit and K-12 Creative Contest Winners Presentation
  • Saturday, January 17th: MLK Unity March leading to a Breakfast Reception
  • Monday, January 19th: National Day of Service with opportunities to donate goods ahead and participate in bagging lunches for those in need.

CommUniversity 2026 Workshops Kick Off with Community Safety Focus
January 22, 2026 | 6 - 8 pm | Apex Senior Center, 63 Hunter Street

Join us for an interactive neighborhood training, designed to bring residents and public safety leaders together for a meaningful conversation about community safety and preparedness. This workshop focuses on shared responsibility, situational awareness, and proactive strategies that help residents feel informed and empowered.

Participants will learn how the Town’s Police and Fire Departments work collaboratively to prevent crime, respond to emergencies, and support community safety.

Salem Streetscape Project Set to Begin Early 2026

Salem Street is getting a makeover! This major streetscape project kicks off soon to bring a more welcoming, pedestrian-friendly shopping and dining experience while boosting the downtown's economic vitality and honoring its historic roots. Here's what to keep in mind:

⬇ Follow the Flow: During construction one side of the street will be closed, resulting in traffic flowing southbound only on Salem Street from Saunders Street to Chatham Street. 

🛍 Keep Loving Local: Downtown is still open for business during this project! Follow the posted wayfinding signage to navigate to your preferred parking lot.

EV Chargers Now Installed at Saunders Street Parking Lot

New EV chargers have been installed as part of the Saunders Lot reconstruction project. Three of six units are currently available to charge vehicles – download the Blink Charging app to purchase charging power.

2026 Shearon Harris Siren Testing Dates Released

Duke Energy tests outdoor warning sirens throughout the year to ensure they are working properly. 2026 scheduled siren test dates include:

  • January 7 (5–30 seconds)
  • April 1 (5–30 seconds)
  • July 1 (5–30 seconds)
  • October 7 (up to 3 minutes)

Additional individual siren tests may occur periodically throughout the year as part of routine maintenance.

Dynamic Left Turn Installed by NCDOT at Kelly Road and US Hwy 64 Ramp

Drivers will notice a new traffic signal feature on Kelly Road at the ramp to US 64. The 'Dynamic Left Turn' signage was installed by NCDOT as a method to improve both safety and traffic flow at the intersection.

  • During busy morning and evening commute times, these dual left turns will continue to be protected with a green arrow, keeping everyone safer when traffic volumes are high.
  • During slower times, the rightmost left turn lane is deactivated, allowing drivers in the leftmost lane to turn when it's safe to do so with a flashing yellow arrow.

Recycled Christmas Trees Make Happy Trails at Wake County Parks

Give your Christmas tree a second life through the Wake County Happy Trails Program! Recycle your undecorated holiday tree into mulch for Wake County Parks trails by dropping it off at designated locations now through Jan. 31, 2026. Locations include 6120 Old Smithfield Road, Apex, and Harris Lake, 2112 County Park Drive, New Hill
