Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center Phase 2 Improvements Project Update
Please see the information below for the latest updates on progress, photos, and announcements.
- The foundation slabs were poured for both the north and south building additions.
- The new air conditioning system is expected to connect to Austin Energy Chilled Water District Cooling Network and to operate this month.
- Framing for the new ceilings, or soffits, at the exterior walkways is being constructed.
- Grease trap for teaching kitchen is in place and connected below ground.
- Structural steel erection will start this month with the south building addition followed by the north addition.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Concrete pours will continue. Steel and the construction crane delivery are expected this month. Work hours will adhere to the City’s noise ordinance. Ordinance information can be found here.
- The Confluence, a separate public/private partnership project, has increased activities at the MACC, as the parking lot is the construction access point. Additional information can be found here.

SCHEDULED MILESTONES
- Construction began – August 28, 2023
- Anticipated completion of all major construction activity – Summer 2025
- Anticipated grand opening – Fall 2025
