Due to a number of recent incidents impacting public safety, the City launched a targeted 60-Day Downtown Safety Initiative on Monday, May 1. There are complex circumstances contributing to the safety issues that Asheville is currently seeing downtown and it will take a community response to address these complexities.
Thank you for your continued interest in this initiative. The next update will be sent on Friday, June 30 and will include steps that the City is taking beyond the 60 days. Information gathered, along with crime statistics and survey results are being used to assess whether or not actions have had an impact on downtown safety, and to guide strategies moving forward.
