| We want to provide an update on completed work and an extension of the Thornton Road closure.
In August, we finished connecting two new water lines in the project area, Austin Energy relocated their service line to the Carriage Park Condos, and we started work on Thornton Road.

Update on Thornton Road closure
Work continues on Thornton Road requiring it to be closed daily at a point roughly halfway between Oltorf Street and Bridgeway Drive. This daily closure from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. will continue into October. When the road reopens, the remaining work on Thornton will only require the use of flaggers.
If you normally use Thornton Road to travel through your neighborhood, please continue to follow the posted detour. Additional signage has been added to make the detour more visible.
- To reach West Oltorf Street: Follow the posted detour using Del Curto Road and Bluebonnet Lane to exit the neighborhood at South Lamar Boulevard.
- To enter the neighborhood: Use Bluebonnet Lane from South Lamar Boulevard and follow the posted detour signs.
Residents and businesses located on Thornton Road between Oltorf Street and Bridgeway Drive still have access to Thornton Road. However, they cannot travel through the closed area during work hours.

What is this project all about?
This project is improving the storm drain system in the South Lamar area and will help protect the area from flooding. In addition to the drainage improvements, the project includes mobility improvements on Bluebonnet Lane and Del Curto. Construction started in November 2025 and is expected to be complete in 2027.

- Permitted work hours are Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Please allow extra time for travel and slow down near the construction areas.
- Roads are being temporarily patched during the construction. They will be repaved at the end of the project, towards the end of 2027.
- For your safety, stay out of fenced off areas and follow all detours. The detours apply to pedestrians and bicyclists as well as cars.
- Please note that as with any construction project, schedules are projected as accurately as possible, and all dates are subject to change due to the nature of construction and weather.
