FREDERICK, Md. –  Frederick County Public Libraries (FCPL) and Frederick County Government today unveiled a sign showing the exterior design of the new West Frederick Library, which will be located at 501 S. McCain Drive in the Hillcrest neighborhood.

At the unveiling ceremony, County Executive Jessica Fitzwater and Library Director James Kelly were joined by Council Member M.C. Keegan-Ayer, Mayor Michael O’Connor and other distinguished guests for the first look of the library’s exterior design. County Executive Fitzwater and Director Kelly offered remarks and discussed the next steps for the project.

“We are excited to unveil the vision for the new West Frederick Library,” said County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. “Sharing the exterior design brings us one step closer to providing essential resources and a vibrant community space for residents. We look forward to hearing from the community as we move toward construction.”

“Reaching this exciting stage in the West Frederick Library project is the culmination of years of community advocacy and public engagement,” said Frederick County Public Libraries Director James Kelly. “FCPL is glad to be moving forward with bringing a library to West Frederick that helps meet community needs and reflects their input.”

The public will be invited to a final community meeting of the design phase, during which both interior and exterior renderings of the West Frederick Library will be revealed. The meeting will be held Wednesday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at Butterfly Ridge Elementary School.

FCPL has partnered with the Frederick County Division of Public Works’ Department of Engineering and Construction Management and Dewberry Architects, Inc. throughout the design phase, which is expected to be completed this summer. Construction of the library is planned to begin in spring 2027, with a tentative project completion in late 2028.
