Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center Phase 2 Improvements Project Update

 

Here are the latest updates on progress, photos, and announcements:

  • Recent weather has slowed outdoor work.
  • Site retaining walls at Zocalo are 80% complete.
  • Brick installation is ongoing at the north addition.
  • Installation is in progress on the new elevator.
  • Exterior stairs and hand railings are being welded in place. 
  • Major mechanical equipment installation is 50% complete.
  • Window installation is underway. 
  • Tape and float of interior drywall continues.
  • Auditorium roof replacement will resume with dry weather forecast.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • City Council has approved artists Katherine Telley and Ruben Esquivel to design and fabricate artwork for the ESB MACC Phase 2, Art in Public Places (AIPP) Project. The artists are working on the conceptual design during the first quarter of the year. Visit the AIPP website for more announcements regarding the planned community engagement for this project.
  • Concrete pours and steel deliveries will continue. Work hours will adhere to the City’s noise ordinance. Work hours will adhere to the City's noise ordinance.
  • The Confluence, a separate public/private partnership project, has increased activities at the ESB MACC. The parking lot is the construction access point for the east side of the creek delta. There are trail detours because of the trail enhancements. Additional project information and temporary trail detours can be found on The Confluence project website.
  • The roundabout and driveways of the MACC continue to experience elevated traffic and congestion due to the volume of work in the area by developers. Please exercise caution while in this district.

SCHEDULED MILESTONES

  • Construction began – August 28, 2023
  • Anticipated completion of all major construction activity – Summer 2025
  • Anticipated grand opening – Fall 2025

 

Please note that as with any construction project, schedules are projected as accurately as possible, and all dates are subject to change due to the nature of construction and weather.

 

This is an active construction site. For the safety of the public, unauthorized entry is not permitted.
