MEASURE I SURVEY
The City of Pinole is seeking your input on how to best use the funds from Measure I, which voters generously approved. These funds will help maintain key services like public safety and park maintenance, and, if sales tax performance is strong, may provide up to $500,000 for additional projects starting in 2026. We need your feedback to prioritize these community projects and ensure they align with your needs. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and help guide our planning process. Your voice matters—thank you for participating!

The Pinole City Council issued a proclamation in honor of International Women's Day and Women's History Month at the most recent council meeting on Tuesday, March 4th. The proclamation celebrates the achievements of women in Pinole and beyond, from trailblazing leaders to everyday heroes. The council emphasized the importance of equity and inclusion, inviting residents to join in upcoming events throughout March to celebrate women’s impact on our community. The proclamation was awarded to the City's all-female executive team.
Pinole Police Chief Melissa Klawuhn and Public Works Director Heba El-Guindy were sworn in, completing the City of Pinole's executive team. Their leadership, experience, and dedication to public service will help shape a safer, more efficient, and well-maintained community for Pinole residents. The City looks forward to their contributions and the positive impact they will have on the city.
The appointments of Chief Klawuhn and Director El-Guindy not only strengthen the executive leadership team but also mark a historic milestone as the first all-female department head team known in Pinole's history.

The community celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and soccer activities on February 22.
Thanks to a generous donation from WCCYSL and a strong partnership with the City, the soccer field has undergone significant upgrades and is ready to welcome athletes and spectators alike. RESIDENTS SHARE THEIR VOICES AT MEASURE I WORKSHOP
Last weekend, the City hosted an interactive and educational Measure I Workshop at the Pinole Senior Center. City Manager Kelcey Young gave a presentation about how Measure I funding works, the financial state of Pinole, facts about our roads, and potential special projects. The City came up with potential projects that may be attainable in the next 3 years and would make a big impact in Pinole. Workshop participants had the opportunity to share which projects they prefer to see completed while keeping an annual budget of $400,000-500,000 in mind (starting in 2026). Available Measure I funds will be dependent on the amount of sales tax revenue and other factors.
The City is already in the process of planning how to use Measure I funds to address important priorities in our community. These funds will help us maintain services in areas such as public safety and park maintenance—some of the key areas that our residents have already identified as priorities. If sales tax does well, the City hopes to have up to approximately $500,000 for additional projects in the coming years starting in 2026. We would like to begin identifying community priorities so that we can work this into our budget planning process. While the final costs may vary, we’ve already outlined general estimates. We are also continuing to look into grant funding and other funding sources to help support projects. After careful planning, a budget containing a list of proposed projects could be presented to Pinole City Council for final approval. Read more about Measure I.
If you did not have a chance to attend the workshop, you can still participate in our survey.

COMMUNITY CLEANUP SUCCESS - 293 POUNDS OF TRASH REMOVED
The Friends of Pinole Creek Watershed's cleanup on February 15 was a huge success, thanks to the 34 dedicated volunteers who showed up to make a difference. A special shout out goes to the St. Joseph confirmation classes for their strong participation. Volunteers collected 60 pounds (72 gallons) of trash at the library, along the trail, and in the creek leading to Pinole Valley Shopping Center. Meanwhile, another hardworking crew tackled the upper watershed along Alhambra Valley Road, removing 199 pounds (105 gallons) of trash—plus a mattress, construction materials, and car parts! In addition, several volunteers took on the invasive ivy at the Native Plant Garden, helping to restore native vegetation. Thank you to everyone who participated—your efforts help keep our community clean and beautiful!
