FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick County Office of Agriculture is proud to announce the unveiling of the Forever Farmland sign and the official launch of the new Forever Farmland Signage Program. This initiative celebrates and recognizes landowners who have made the commitment to permanently preserving their farms for agricultural use.

"Preserving farmland is a meaningful investment in protecting our quality of life," said County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. "These signs are a visible reminder of the farmers whose stewardship ensures that our agricultural community continues to thrive."

Frederick County’s first farmland preservation easement was created in 1977. Since then, the County—working in partnership with state and federal programs—has preserved 80,909 acres of farmland, including 77,975 acres that are permanently protected. The new Forever Farmland signs honor the extraordinary commitment these landowners have made to ensure that agriculture remains a defining part of Frederick County’s landscape, economy, and heritage.

Throughout the spring, Office of Agriculture staff will begin delivering Forever Farmland signs to preserved farms across the county. Landowners who wish to arrange for pickup or delivery may contact Shannon O’Neil at 301-600-1411 or SONeil@FrederickCountyMD.gov.
