Old Lampasas Dam Modernization
July 2026 Construction Update
Throughout June, crews continued installing reinforced concrete for the inlet and outlet structures of the dam facility, as well as the auxiliary spillway. Revegetation planning also continued, and the maintenance access road construction was completed.
Auxiliary spillway construction is expected to be completed within the next month. Excavation for the spillway's secondary drain begins this week.
Graffiti was discovered on one of the concrete structures. Austin Watershed Protection's Graffiti Abatement Team is addressing the issue. Community members are encouraged to call 311 if graffiti is observed in the future.

Project Background
Built in 1984, the Old Lampasas Dam is a high-risk dam that is in poor condition and was significantly damaged during Tropical Storm Hermine in 2010. This project will repair the dam, bring it into compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) safety regulations, reduce flood risks in the neighborhood, and improve water quality in Bull Creek. Construction for the Old Lampasas Dam Modernization project began in October 2024 and is anticipated to reach substantial completion by late 2026, weather permitting.
