Phase 1 of the Congress Avenue Urban Design Initiative is currently under construction at the south side of the Congress Avenue and Cesar Chavez intersection.
Construction will proceed along the eastern side of the 100 block on Congress Avenue, followed by the west side of the 100 block. Once the 100 block is substantially complete, crews will move north to the 200 block and continue sequentially up to the project limits at 7th Street. Each block is expected to take approximately three months to complete.

Phase 1 of the full project is anticipated to be substantially complete by Summer 2027. During construction, there will be short-term lane closures and detours, but pedestrian access and access to businesses and buildings along Congress Avenue will be maintained.
