Each year the Sarasota/Manatee MPO updates the 5 Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The new Draft TIP for FY 2023/24—2027/28 is now available for public review and comment.
If you would like to download the TIP, please visit the MPO Website by clicking here.
Provide feedback at Sarasota/Manatee MPO’s TIP project page at https://publicinput.com/u5505.
Background: The process to develop the 2023/24-2027/28 TIP started on February 28, 2022, when the MPO Board adopted its 2022 Project Priority List. That list was forwarded to FDOT to prepare its Draft Tentative Five-Year Work Program which includes roadway improvements, transportation alternatives, bridge, safety, and public transportation projects (i.e. transit, aviation, port, intermodal, and transportation disadvantaged program projects).
The TIP will be presented at upcoming committee meetings on May 8th and will be presented to the MPO Board at their next MPO Board meeting on May 22, 2023. The TIP must be submitted to FDOT by July 15, 2023.

USDOT | Our Nation's Roadway Safety Crisis: Roadway Fatalities
Almost 95% of people who die using our Nation’s transportation networks are killed on our streets, roads, and highways, and this threat to our safety is getting worse. Read the National Roadway Safety Strategy to learn about what U.S. DOT is doing to address this crisis.
Explore interactive data visualizations here to learn about the significant impact of motor vehicle deaths in our communities and where progress is being made in eliminating roadway deaths.
The U.S. Department of Transportation & NHTSA provide five visualizations, each with a different, interactive way to think about roadway safety:
- First, we share a hotspot-focused analysis of fatal motor vehicle crash locations across the United States.
- Second, we visualize the distribution of roadway fatalities compared to the national average by county.
- Third, we investigate places where people live to understand the relationship between fatality rates and population size.
- Fourth, we visualize Historically Disadvantaged Communities for an equity-focused analysis of the unequal distribution of roadway fatalities at the neighborhood level (U.S. Census tract).
- And finally, we visualize progress towards our Vision Zero goal, highlighting cities, towns, and other municipalities that reported zero roadway fatalities.
How does Sarasota County and Manatee County compare to the rest of the U.S.?

USDOT FY23 Safe Streets and Roads for All | Notice of Funding Opportunity
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) established the new Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary program with $5 billion in appropriated funds over 5 years. The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.
The SS4A program supports Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s National Roadway Safety Strategy and the Department’s goal of zero deaths and serious injuries on our nation’s roadways.
The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity is to solicit applications for Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grants. Funds for the fiscal year 2023 SS4A grant program are to be awarded on a competitive basis to support planning, infrastructure, behavioral, and operational initiatives to prevent death and serious injury on roads and streets involving all roadway users, including pedestrians; bicyclists; public transportation, personal conveyance, and micromobility users; motorists; and commercial vehicle operators.
The deadline for applications is 5:00 p.m. (EDT) Monday, July 10, 2023. Late applications will not be accepted.
