Howdy Neighbors, Happy April!
This month we honor all our Military Children. Check out all the upcoming events in our city that celebrate our military kids!
It's almost time for our annual District 10 Fiesta, sponsored by myself, State Representative Steve Allison, and Precinct 3 County Commissioner Grant Moody, NEXT Thursday, April 13 at the Catholic Life Insurance Pavilion (1635 NE Interstate 410 Loop, San Antonio, Texas, 78209), 6 PM! This year we're bringing the party straight to y'all with live entertainment from Mariachi Damas de Jalisco, Mary Lou's Dance Company, DJ Future Sounds, and many more surprises. Here is the official lineup of City departments you can expect in attendance:
NEIGHBORS! Now's your chance to save a life! We are partnering with South Texas Blood and Tissue Center for their annual Council Challenge Blood Drive, THIS Monday, April 10th at the Catholic Life Insurance parking lot (1635 NE Loop 410), 10 AM - 3 PM. When you donate, you'll also receive an exclusive South Texas Blood and Tissue Fiesta medal and a chance to win tickets to an XFL San Antonio Brahmas game! Let's show the city how District 10 comes together! Register here to donate!
With elections for Mayor and City Council just around the corner, the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance is hosting a Candidate Forum, Monday, April 17, 2023, at 7 PM at the Tool Yard (10303 Tool Yard, San Antonio TX, 78233). This is an essential way for you to meet your potential candidate, and learn more about what is on the ballot including the proposed City Charter, Proposition A. We want to remind you all to please take your time reading and visiting the list of factual resources regarding it. Click here to read the proposed amendment. We hope you can make it out. Click here for more info on the session and find out what documents to bring on May 8.
As a reminder, the San Antonio River Authority continues to host open houses for residents to learn more about the 2023 Draft Floodplain Maps. Zero Percent Interest Loans Now Available for San Antonio Small Businesses!
The City of San Antonio, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC), and LiftFund have secured $500,000 in the FY23 Budget for the City of San Antonio’s 0% Interest Program, a program aimed to support the growth of San Antonio small businesses, especially in light of recent economic challenges.
Small businesses located in or relocating to San Antonio city limits can apply for up to $100,000 in 0% interest funding through the program, double what has been offered by the program in the past. The funding can be used for startups as well as the majority of regular business expenses including inventory, payroll, equipment, and working capital.
According to the program website, the initiative prioritizes funding small businesses looking to hire additional staff, in efforts to help create jobs in the city. Those that have not received a 0% interest LiftFund loan in the past two years also have priority, to help those that need support the most.

Ready to Work Program Expands Eligibility to
Include Bexar County Military Community!
The City of San Antonio’s workforce initiative, Ready to Work, announces the launch of a pilot program that expands Ready to Work’s focus to prioritize community members connected to military service living throughout Bexar County.
"This expansion of the Ready to Work program is a great opportunity for our community to tap into a large, talented pool of nearly 4,300 military members assigned across Joint Base San Antonio who transition out of the military each year,” said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “In addition, for the approximately 322,000 veterans in the greater San Antonio area, this is an opportunity for them to train for good-paying jobs and will encourage them to remain in San Antonio.”
The new pilot program allows active-duty service members who are transitioning to civilian life and who currently reside on military installations or housing located in Bexar County, but outside San Antonio city limits, to enroll in Ready to Work.
Military-connected individuals interested in participating can learn more about Ready to Work at the readytoworksa.com website, which will be available for pilot program applications upon the launch of the initiative on May 1.
Eligibility:
