Yard Waste Tips During Peak Leaf Season

During this time of year, Apex hits peak leaf season, and our yard waste collection crews work hard to balance the increased workload. We do our best to stay on schedule, running as early and as late as safety allows.

Here are a few ways you can help ensure efficient collection:

  • Kick it to the curb. Do not place yard waste in bags or your trash cart. Rake to the curb, where our vacuum trucks will collect.
  • Separate your piles. Keep large sticks and branches separate from smaller yard waste, as this could damage the vacuum and delay collection.
  • Only rain down the drain. Keep yard waste out of our sewer system by placing 10 feet or more away from storm drains
  • Rocks and mulch not collected. Our trucks cannot collect dirt, mulch, or rocks. These items damage our trucks and can lead to “dusting” streets while collecting.

Apex Seeking Community Feedback During Town Manager Search

As Apex seeks a Town Manager, we'd like to know - what do YOU feel are the most important skills and abilities needed for this position?

The feedback provided will be used to identify the key characteristics and competencies needed in the next Town Manager, and will also help our consultants in developing interview questions and assessment center exercises used to evaluate the candidates.

Weigh in through this form by October 23rd.

Celebrating the Spooky Season in Apex

What happens in Apex during the spookiest time of the year? Here are a few things you should know!

Trick-or-Treating: In Apex, kids typically do their trick-or-treating on the day that Halloween is nationally recognized (October 31st), no matter what day of the week it falls on. The town does not set a date for trick-or-treating. All ages are welcome to trick-or-treat.

Halloween Activities: Check out a few options around town to celebrate the season!

  • Witches Night Out (organized by the Apex Downtown Business Association)
  • Tour of Frights: Visit homes and businesses decked out with spooky or fall-themed decorations
  • Goblin's Groove Family Dance: Celebrate the season with costumes, dancing, spooky snacks, and more!
  • Scarecrow Row & Haunted Nature Trail: Visit Apex Community Park's Scarecrow Row from October 21st through 31st and check out all the community-decorated scarecrows! Bring a flashlight if you'd like to visit after dark - the park closes at 10 pm.
  • Spooky Tails: Bring your dog dressed in costume for a special pet parade around the park and since it is Halloween, treats will be served for pets and their owners.

Celebrate Safely: The Apex Fire Department has a few words of advice to stay safe on Halloween.

Traffic Safety Survey

If you feel unsafe in a car, would you speak up to the driver?

The Apex Police Department is partnering with NC State’s Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) to facilitate a traffic safety study pilot program. The purpose of the survey is to gather information about how Apex residents feel about a range of traffic safety behaviors, and use that data to create educational outreach. This survey also supports the work being done through the town’s Vision Zero program.

We know that roadway safety can only be achieved through collaborative efforts. Be part of the conversation! All roadway users 18+ in Apex are encouraged to take the quick survey here: go.ncsu.edu/apex

Pleasant Park Nears Completion

We’re getting SO close! There are just a few remaining items on the checklist to complete before we can open this premiere park to the public. (For example, you might see the traffic signal at the park entrance activate in the next couple of weeks.)

Stay tuned to our social media and website for an announcement about opening day! For now though, please avoid visiting the park, as it's an active construction site. Learn more...

Chartered in 1939, the Apex Volunteer Fire Department was formed by 19 men who felt the call to support their community through fire protection. Those selfless actions set the tone for a long-standing legacy of service, now with over 100 paid staff in the Apex Fire Department.
