Coming Soon: Cool Pavement Project
We are preparing for another hot summer. Starting soon, cool pavement will be tested at 10 locations across the City.
Cool pavement is a reflective seal placed on top of asphalt. It helps reduce heat on the road surface and in the air. This lowers temperatures, keeping nearby areas cooler.
In 2021, San Antonio became the first city in Texas to use cool pavement, testing it on a small stretch of asphalt at the east end of the Hays Street Bridge. Now, the City is expanding its initiative, applying the treatment to half-mile sections of roadway in all 10 Council Districts. Stay tuned for updates!
