Veterans Day
As we settle in to November, we look forward to the upcoming holiday season spent with friends, family, and neighbors. Let us not forget that this month includes a special holiday for honoring those who have served our nation with Veterans Day on November 11.
I am proud to highlight one of Frederick County’s own traditions – the Brunswick Veterans Day Parade. Known as one of the oldest Veterans Day parades in the country, this event brings together people from Frederick County and beyond to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of those who served. I encourage all to attend this year’s parade on Sunday, November 10 to honor our veterans and support one another in our community. The opening ceremony begins at 1 p.m. and the parade begins at 2 pm.
State of the County
Last month, I had the opportunity to share our progress and outline future goals in my annual State of the County Address. I am proud to report that the state of Frederick County is strong.
We are the fastest growing County in the state, which creates opportunities. Growth also creates challenges, which we are meeting head-on with practical solutions to protect the things that make this community so attractive to so many people.
During the address, I announced three new initiatives: a commitment to upgrade Frederick County Public Schools’ career and technical education, a first-of-its-kind transit hub on the Golden Mile, and a new goal to double the number of preserved acres of agricultural and forested land.
Looking back at the things we’ve accomplished this year is humbling. By working together with people throughout the county – elected officials, community leaders, and dedicated public servants alike – our community is thriving, and I can say with confidence that the state of Frederick County is strong.

Business and Industry Cabinet
I recently announced the revitalization of the Business and Industry Cabinet (BIC). The BIC will serve as an advisory board to the County Executive on matters related to sustainable and inclusive economic and workforce development, including strategic planning, marketing, and business recruitment, retention, and expansion. The BIC also will provide a forum for business leaders and government officials to share ideas, solutions, and creative approaches to business and workforce topics and issues facing Frederick County.
Restoring the advisory board was a recommendation of the community-led Transition Team. Residents who are interested in serving are encouraged to apply. Learn more at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/Boards or watch the announcement below.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently designated Frederick County as a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Urban County. Grant funds can be used for a wide range of needs, such as community centers, housing repairs, and services.
The CDBG program will help us improve community infrastructure and expand affordable housing options in Frederick County. I’m proud and excited that so many of our municipalities are partnering with us, extending our impact across the county.

Energy Grants to County Exceed $3 Million
Maryland Energy Administration Director Paul Pinsky visited Frederick County last month to announce a total of $3.4 million in grants from the State agency to the County. Funds will be used for a range of projects, including the purchase of one of the first electric fire trucks on the East Coast. Other initiatives include installing energy-efficient lights, saving residents money on their home electric bills, and building a resilience center at the County-owned Prospect Center.
I am proud to not only help our residents find avenues toward a more sustainable home and lifestyle, but also set an example by engaging in long-term clean energy projects at the County level. The Moore-Miller Administration and MEA are fantastic partners, and I appreciate Director Pinsky’s steadfast support of Frederick County’s energy conservation efforts.

Green Infrastructure Plan Will Drive Sustainability and Resilience
Frederick County is beginning the planning process for its Green Infrastructure Plan, a new initiative aimed at addressing critical issues related to the natural and built environment, community resilience, and environmental stewardship. I look forward to working with the public to develop and implement the Green Infrastructure Plan. Sustainability is not only about protecting the environment – it’s about creating a livable, vibrant future where everyone can thrive.
Goals of the Green Infrastructure Plan include establishing a strategic network of “hubs” that reduce habitat fragmentation, provide options for wildlife migration, sustain and regenerate working lands, mitigate the effects of climate change, and increase access to green space and outdoor recreation opportunities. The plan will consider factors that affect environmental, agricultural, and recreational resources in the County.

Hercules Custom Iron Expands Operations in Frederick County
Hercules Custom Iron (HCI), a division of Hercules Fence, is expanding their operations with the purchase of the iconic former Flying Dog Brewery building in Frederick, MD. The facility they are moving to has played an important role in our manufacturing sector through the years, and it holds a special place in the hearts of many in our community.
This relocation will triple the size of HCI's current operations and double its shop and office footprint.
